Daily Announcements 1/27/2023

There will be a homecoming dance after the boys varsity basketball game tonight until 11pm. Cost is $5 per person. If you plan on bringing a student from another school, please have a dance request form returned to the school by Friday.

Mr. Retherford is looking for student and staff volunteers to help this Saturday night at our Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. Help is needed from 4:30-8:00 p.m. You can help during part of or all of this time. The fundraiser is for our Student Activity Account. This account is used for multiple purposes to assist with activities here at school, including for prizes for our positive behavior ticket system. If you are able to help, please send a Schoology message to Mr. Retherford. He will then get in touch with you.

Softball practice will be next week on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30. Wednesday will be in Main gym and Thursday in the cafeteria

Next week the boys golf team will have a rivalry week fundraiser. Specific details are as follows:
There will be 2 buckets in the cafeteria one with a Purdue logo one with an IU logo.
The Bucket with the most money at the end of the week wins.
There will be a donation sheet next to the buckets where donors can put their names.
One doner from the winning team at the end of the week will be randomly selected to win an apparel item from their school.
Dollar Bills subtract 100 points from that school.
All coins are worth their value in points so for example 20 pennies is 20 points. 4 nickels are worth 20 points. 2 quarters are worth 50 points. 2 dimes are worth 20 points.

All the sophomores within District 22 have been mailed information about the upcoming MACC Open House on TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, from 5:30 to 7:30. If you are a sophomore and did not receive an invitation in the mail, please go to Student Services for more information. (1/31)

FEMA is accepting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council, a program that brings teens together from across the nation who are interested and engaged in community preparedness. Students in grades eight through 11 are eligible to apply. Application deadline is March 6, 2023. See Mrs. Swift in Student Services for more information. (2/6)

On Saturday February 11th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in Room 144 to sign up.

John Hopkins University will be hosting a Virtual Summer Program for students in grades 9-12. Students from around the world learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine. The conference consists of a series of multiple virtual events on multiple days throughout June-August 2023. The conference application will be accepted until March 31, 2023. Monroe Central Jr. High girls won against Union City Thursday night 44-5 with a great defensive effort from everybody. Brynlee Patterson led the way with 19 points, Oaklei Davis had 8 points, Aberee Ervin had 5 points, Haidyn Dumpert had 5 points, Olivia Conklin had 3 points, Abby Thomas and Brylie Tinsman both added 2 points.

The Lady Bears JV finished their season with 8 wins and 6 losses after a 16-4 win over Blue River on senior night. Aubrey Johnson led the team in scoring with 7 points. McKenna Chamness had 3 points. Avery Thomas, Gracie Baker, Sophia Bolton all had 2 points each.

The Lady Bears picked up a 50-46 win over the Blue River Vikings. Monroe Central had 3 players score in double figures. Sydney Patterson led the Bears with 16 points, Audrey Keeley celebrated her Senior night with 14 points. Kimber Abshear followed with 12 points and 9 rebounds. The Bears finish their regular season with a 12-9 record. The girls sectional will be held at Wapahani, the Lady Bears will play Wednesday night at 7:30pm against Winchester.
