Sweethearts Dance will be held on February 11th. All grades 7-12, $8 person $15 couple – tickets for sale at the door.
Softball practice will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30. Wednesday will be in Main gym and Thursday in the cafeteria
The boys golf team is having a rivalry week fundraiser. Specific details are as follows:
There will be 2 buckets in the cafeteria one with a Purdue logo one with an IU logo.
The Bucket with the most money at the end of the week wins.
There will be a donation sheet next to the buckets where donors can put their names.
One doner from the winning team at the end of the week will be randomly selected to win an apparel item from their school.
Dollar Bills subtract 100 points from that school.
All coins are worth their value in points so for example 20 pennies is 20 points. 4 nickels are worth 20 points. 2 quarters are worth 50 points. 2 dimes are worth 20 points.
All the sophomores within District 22 have been mailed information about the upcoming MACC Open House on TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, from 5:30 to 7:30. If you are a sophomore and did not receive an invitation in the mail, please go to Student Services for more information. (1/31)
FEMA is accepting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council, a program that brings teens together from across the nation who are interested and engaged in community preparedness. Students in grades eight through 11 are eligible to apply. Application deadline is March 6, 2023. See Mrs. Swift in Student Services for more information. (2/6)
On Saturday February 11th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in Room 144 to sign up.
John Hopkins University will be hosting a Virtual Summer Program for students in grades 9-12. Students from around the world learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine. The conference consists of a series of multiple virtual events on multiple days throughout June-August 2023. The conference application will be accepted until March 31, 2023. The Golden Bears lost to conference rival Blue River on homecoming 50 to 33. The Vikings and the Bears both got off to slow starts at the end of the 1st quarter the score was 8 to 5 Vikings. The score picked up in the 2nd quarter and at halftime the score was 23-17 Vikings. In the first half the Bears missed a bunch of easy baskets. In the 3rd quarter the Bears came out of the locker room and in a hurry scored a quick 5 points to cut the lead to 1 for the Vikings. But the Vikings came right back down and hit a 3 to back up 4. The Bears tied it up with 330 to go in the 3rd but after that Blue River scored the next 6 to lead 32-26 at the end of 3. Blue River hit 4 3 pointers in the 4th quarter to pull away from the Bears. The Bears got outscored in the 4th quarter 18-7. The Bears were led in scoring by Cole Munchel with 12. He also added 10 rebounds. Hayden Taylor added 10 points. Easton Foster added 8 points and 8 rebounds. The JV Bears beat the Vikings Friday night 45 to 34. The bears overcame 18 turnovers to win. The Bears were 16 of 24 from the foul line. They outscored the Vikings 15 to 8 in the 4th quarter to pull away for the win. Justus Ullom led the bears with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Carter Duncan added 7 rebounds.
The Bears lost a hard fought battle Saturday night 37-31. The Bears got down early 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. They clawed their way back to only being down 2 at the half. Early in the 3rd quarter Alexandria went on a 13 to 0 run to extend their lead to 31 to 16. The Bears ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 8 starting the 4 quarter. In the 4th quarter the
Bears couldn’t get any closer than 4 points. The Bears just couldn’t get the timely shot to fall.
The Bears were led in scoring by Cole Munchel with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Easton Foster and Hayden Taylor had 6 points each. The JV Bears beat Alexandria 56-53 Saturday night. The Bears trailed after one quarter 14-11. At the half the Bears had the lead 23-22. In the 3rd quarter the lead switched sides 4 times but at the end of the quarter the Bears had the lead by 5. In the 4th quarter the Bears were down 5 in the middle but timely defense and clutch free throws sealed the game. The Bears have won 2 in a row now. The Bears were led in scoring by Justus Ullom with 19 points and he was 7 of 8 at the foul line. Carter Wheatley added 17 points. Justus Ullom also added 7 rebounds for the Bears.
The MC Wrestling team finished in 7th place and have 4 going on to Regional next Saturday. Falling just short of moving on were Clay Smith finishing 6th at 220 and Cade Goodrich finishing 5th. Moving on to represent MC at the Regional are 3rd place finishers Zac Martin at 145 and Jerimiah Ullom at 170. Making it to the finals and finishing as a runner-up was Senior Kolten Tinsman at 195, his practice partner at 182 also made the finals and won his 3rd straight sectional title and with that win became Monroe Centrals All-time wins leader with 142, senior Hunter Page.
In the semi-finals of the Boys Randolph County Tournament, the Monroe Central 7th Grade Boys Basketball team defeated Union City by a score of 51-40. Despite a slow start, the Bears rebounded tremendously to take an 8 point lead into the half. Steady play in the second half helped the Bears reach the County final. Great teamwork and doing the little things right were the keys to victory. Luke Morgan led the Bears in scoring with 33, while Peyton Chamness added 5, and Cooper Huston and Weston Grove scored 4 apiece. In the Randolph County Championship game, the Golden Bears were able to defeat and win their second straight County Championship over Randolph Southern, 44-27. A great start to the game put the Bears in the driver’s seat for the rest of the game. Great play and execution by the entire team was the key to success, as well as great team defense. Everyone chipped in the Bears final game of the season, helping end the season on a high note. Luke Morgan led the Bears in scoring with 29 points, while Weston Grove added 5 and Peyton Chamness and Myles Oliphant each scored 4. The Bears ended the season with a 15-5 record and a 10-2 record in MEC play.
The 8th grade boys season came to an end Saturday morning in the semi finals of the County Tourney with a 30 to 24 loss to Union City. The boys took a 1 point lead into halftime but got outscored 13 to 7 in the 3rd quarter and could not recover. A great effort by both teams defensively made scoring difficult. Pierceton Erwin led 5 Bears in scoring with 8 and Conner Baker hit two 3’s for 6.
