Daily Announcements 2/23/2023

Varsity Softball will have their last practice this Thursday after school before official practices start on March 6. No practices next week.

There are order forms in the office for the Ashtynn Shook remembrance T-shirt. All profits will go to the Shook family. Order forms are due back to the office by Friday, February 24th or you can contact shannondm34@gmail.com with your order.

It’s National FFA Week – Make sure you participate in the activities at lunch. Here are the dress up days for the week:
Thursday – Western vs. Fashion Day
Friday – Blue & Gold Day for FFA

JH Track & Field practices will begin on March 13th. They will meet in the cafeteria.

The teachers’ association is selling beef sticks before and after school. Mrs. Van Pelt will be outside room 110 each morning selling and in her room (115) after school.

The JV Bears were in a hard fought game last night and pulled out a 60-55 win in overtime. The Bears were down 4 and the end of the first quarter. By halftime the Bears were up 2. In the 3rd quarter the lead went back and forth but the Bears were still up 2. In the 4th quarter the Bears pushed the lead to 4 with 6 minutes to go. With 4 and half minutes to go the Bears went up 1 on a Josh Swearingen lay-up. Jackson Konkle got a steal and layup to tie the game with 2 and half minutes to go. With 13 seconds to go Griffin Gannom hit 2 free throws to give the Bears a 3 point lead. Union City missed a 3 but the Bears couldn’t get the rebound and Union City hit a 3 at the buzzer to tie the game. In overtime Griffin Gannom and Carter Duncan hit 4 big free throws to win the game with under 30 seconds to go. Carter Duncan led the bears with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Justus Ullom added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Griffin Gannom scored 11 points.

The varsity boys basketball team beat Union City on Tuesday night 77-41 on Senior Night. The Bears led by 10 after the first quarter. By halftime the Bears had stretched the lead to 18. The end of the third quarter the lead was 21. The Bears outscored the Indians 23-8 in the 4th quarter. The Bears only had 8 turnovers for the game and had 4 guys in double figures. Alden Mahaffey led the Bears with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Easton Foster added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Josiah Cleveland had 16 points and shot 7 of 8 from the floor. Cole Munchel added 10 points and a season high 18 rebounds. The Bears finish the regular season Friday night at Randolph Southern.

Middle school wrestlers are on a roll! Golden Bears defeated Tri High 69-20 then went on to tackle the Union City Indians for the second time this year with a score of 52-28, but fell short to Eastern Hancock 42-52. They are now 13-4, undefeated wrestlers on the night were: Hunter Price, Ezekiel Anguino, Elijah King, Liam Brown. AWESOME JOB BEARS !
