Daily Announcements 4/17/2023

Due to a scheduling conflict, the varsity softball game previously scheduled for Wednesday, April 19th has been moved to Wednesday, May 17th. The game will still begin at 5:30pm and the bus will depart at 4:00pm.

Aaro’s will be here today during A, B and C lunch to measure for prom tuxes. You can get 10% off if you order tux, corsage and boutonniere together. Payments are due at the time of the order.

Bear Necessities is sponsoring a Pajama Day this Friday, April 21st.  Bring a $1 donation to your 1st period class on Friday, if you would like to participate.

Seniors: The cookout traditionally follows your graduation rehearsal and is held under the concession stand pavilion. We will have prize giveaways for those who attend. Please go to your “Seniors 2023” Schoology group page & fill out the cookout survey by May 3rd.  (Your graduation rehearsal & cookout will be Friday, June 2nd.)  Thank you! 

The Monroe Central Amateur Radio Club will host a callout and Open House for new membership on Monday, 4/24/23, 5-7pm in Hall Gym.  Bring your parent/guardian and stop by to officially sign up for the club.  If you are unable to make it to the Open House, registration forms will be available in the office to take home and get signed. Again, 5-7pm on Monday the 24th!

The Monroe Central Anchor Club will be collecting adult coloring books, colored pencils, crossword/word search books, etc. to donate to the Parker City nursing home. Any items you bring in can be turned in to the front office. Please consider donating!

Monroe Central Elementary and the Jr.-Sr. High Schools are competing in Penny Wars for Water. Mr. Swallow and the 4th grade class at MCE, as a class project, are raising money to help areas of the world who do not have safe and clean drinking water sources.  Grade levels across the district will compete for who can earn the most money through their donations.  Coins will earn positive points, while paper money will earn negative points.  So, you want to donate coins in your grade level can and paper money into other grade level cans.  The winning grade level will receive a pizza party for the whole grade level.  Staff members will be allowed to wear sweats or jeans during the contest as well for $2.00 per day.  Look for Mr. Swallow to share more information on how the contest will work along with updates in Schoology.  The contest will run from April 10th to April 21st.  Let’s help the 4th grade raise a bunch of money for their class project. 

The teachers’ association is selling beef sticks before and after school. Mrs. Van Pelt will be outside room 110 each morning selling and in her room (115) after school.

The MC Jr High Track teams ran well in a 4-way meet at Blackford on Thursday night. The Boys team came out on top with a score of 93.  First place finishes went to Beau Edmonds in the 100 M and 400 M, Jackson Wines in the 1600 M and 800 M, Kaden Sullivan in the Discus, and Dylan Painter in the Shot Put.  The 4×1 relay and 4×4 relay teams also finished first. Many 2nd place finishes went to MC as well with Zadok Lloyd in the 1600 M and 2400 M.  Lane Whitehead in the 110 hurdles, Lane Dance in the Long Jump, and Mason McCreery in the Shot Put and Discus. The Girls team came in a close 2nd with a score of 68 behind Jay County at 71.   First place finishes were earned by Andi Watson in the 400 M, Karma Armour in the Long Jump and Oaklie Davis in the Shot Put. Jacee Lounsbury was 2nd in the 100 hurdles, and Karma Armour 2nd in Shot Put. The 4×1 and 4×4 teams came in 2nd as well. 

The Bears Softball team lost a tough one to Yorktown 18-0 on Friday night. We were able to hold them scoreless for one inning while only having 9 players available to play and some of those who are battling illness and injury. We are still seeing a lot of improvement. The Bears also dropped two games on Saturday. The Bears lost to Eastbrook 14-4. Ava Pohl, Aubrey Johnson and Kate Brown added a hit each. Mak Brainerd added two hits. The Bears dropped the second game 9-1 to Hamilton Heights. Ava Pohl, Jayme Brannan and Whitley Martin each added hits. The Bears are back in action Tuesday against Shenandoah at home. 

The Monroe Central Girls track team ran in the 3rd annual Legend Relays at Fort Wayne North Side High school on Friday 4-14.vv4 school records were notched:  Karly Puckett, Addy Puckett, Katie Osborne, Ava Phelps set a school record in the Mid-distance Relay (800-400-800-400) with a time of 7:38.27! (3rd place).  The DMR (6-12-8-16) team of 

Karly Puckett, Avery Thomas, Katie Osborne, Addison Coe set a school record with a time of 15:03.02! (2nd place).  The Relay team of Karly Puckett, Katie Osborne, Avery Thomas, Carolanne Kritsch set a school record in the 2000 SMR (8-6-4-2) with a time of 6:20.79! (5th place).  The 4×200 relay team of Harmony Armour, Ava Phelps, Carolanne Kritsch, Audrey Keeley broke the school record with a time of 2:01.16!  Also:  Addison Coe finishes 5th (Division- 1) in the 1600m with a season best 5:47.97 and Avery Thomas finishes 5th (Division-2) in the 1600m with a PR of 5:50.67!  Great job by our ladies team running in a super competitive meet!

Varsity Baseball Results from Saturday – Game 1:  Monroe Central 4, Hagerstown 2.  Logan Walker (Win) and Caleb Luedike (Save) combined for an absolute clinic on the mound. Timely RBIs from Blake Bogue, Carter Duncan, and Cole Luedike knocked in the needed runs. Carter Duncan had a day throwing out two runners attempting to steal second.  Pitching Statistics:  Logan Walker 4IP 3H 1R 0ER 3ks 2bb, Cole Luedike 3IP 1R 1ER 1BB.  Offensive Statistics:  Cole Luedike 2-3 1R 1Rbi, Blake Bogue 1-3 1Rbi 1SB, Carter Duncan 1-3 2Rbi 1R.  Game 2:  Monroe Central 2, Hagerstown 12.  MC ran out of gas in game two giving up 13 hits and committing 3 errors. The boys kept the energy though throughout both games and this bodes well for the rest of the season. MC looks to bounce back at Lapel on Monday.  Offensive Statistics:  Blake Bogue 1-3 triple 1R 1SB, Lane Wilson 1-2 1Rbi, Carter Duncan 1-3 1R 2SB.
