“Bear Necessities is sponsoring an Extra Prep for Teachers contest this week during LITE time. Donate coins or cash to your LITE teacher – they have collection envelopes! The top-earning Junior High and High School classes will earn popcorn and a movie during Friday’s LITE this week. Their teachers receive EXTRA PREP time on Friday, too, during LITE period! *If a senior class wins, then we’ll bump the reward for that class to next week!”
Anyone interested in cheerleading can stay after school on Tuesday from 3:30-5:30pm for cheer clinic tryouts. Please pick up a cheer information packet in the office.
Yearbooks for the 2022-2023 school year are still being sold. Thanks to a community donation, one student who orders before May 22 will be drawn to receive a FREE YEARBOOK. Juniors/Seniors – The parents of the Class of 2024 want to invite you to After Prom – it will be held at the Northwest YMCA in Muncie from 11:30 – 2 am following Prom. You may enter as early as 11:15, and must arrive before 12:00. There will be pickleball, basketball, a Nerf Zone, games, food and door prizes – admission is free!!! Some of the door prizes include a round of golf at Hickory Hills, gift baskets, and gift cards to Chipotle, Target, Taco Bell and LOTS MORE!!!
Attention Students Taking Edmentum Classes – As we begin to wrap up the school year, here are some deadline dates for you. All teacher-graded activities, projects, discussions, etc. must be finished by 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023. All learning modules, mastery tests, unit tests, and semester tests that are graded by Edmentum must be completed by 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Students who do not complete Edmentum courses will be enrolled in Summer School. Please see Mr. Retherford or Mrs. Moran if you have any questions.
The Monroe Central High School Art Club is hosting a Cookies & Canvas fundraising event on Tuesday, May 9th from 6-8pm in the high school art room. Tickets are $20 and include a canvas, materials, painting lesson, and refreshments. Spots are limited! Please contact Ms. Lillian McClung via email or phone to reserve your spot.
Attention Seniors – Senior Workday T-shirts will be passed out on WEDNESDAY 5/10. Senior Work day is Friday, 5/12 from 8:30 – 12:00 with lunch to follow at the football field. This year we will be working in Parker City, Farmland, and the Conservation Club. Group Sign-up forms are now on the Senior class Schoology page.
Juniors and Seniors, prom 2023’s theme is “A Night on Cloud 9.” Prom Bids are on sale during A lunch until May 12th. A single ticket is $20, and a couple is $40.
The teachers’ association is selling beef sticks before and after school. Mrs. Van Pelt will be outside room 110 each morning selling and in her room (115) after school.
The Bears softball team lost to Northeastern 18-3 on Monday. Aubrey Johnson and Tessa Chesher shared the mound today and posted a strikeout each. Tessa Chesher and Kate Brown each added a bit for the Bears. Tessa also had all 3 RBI for the game. The Bears are back in action at Madison Grant on Wednesday
MC Baseball gets back in the W column due in large part to a dominate outing on the mound by Lane Wilson. The Bears defeated Elwood 5-2. Timely hits and excellent defense backed Lanes’s performance as the boys start to round into tournament form. Standouts: Lane Wilson 7ip 4H 2ER 10k 0BB 2-3 2RBI, Carter Duncan 1-3 2B 2RBI, Blake Bogue 1-1 1R 1RBI 1BB 1SB, Zane Tinsman 1-4 2R 1SB, Cole Luedike 1-3 1R 1SB.
The Bears Golf Team started off the week on Monday with a strong performance against the Burris Owls at Cardinal Hills. The Bears won the match 181-267. The Bears were led by Bentley Thornburg firing a 40. Coltan West finished with a 42, Rigley Braun shooting a 48, Cohen West with a 49, and Hayden Taylor and Trystyn Thornburg both shot a 50. The Bears look forward to continuing the strong play the rest of the week leading up to the Conference Championship. The Bears take on Delta on Wednesday at Hickory Hills.
The MC Jr High Track teams competed in their last home meet of the season Monday night against Randolph Southern, Union, and Seton Catholic. The Girls team came in first with a score of 80 and the Boys won with a score of 98.
