Daily Announcements 12/12/2023

The Fine Arts Academic Team will have a meeting after school on Wednesday until 3:30pm. Any student who is interested in being on the team is welcome to attend. 

There will be a call-out meeting for our Bring Change to Mind Club on Wednesday, December 13th during study hall! This club is run by our student advocates and will be a great club to join if you want to help spread mental health awareness and be a part of positive change in our building. This club is open to any student in high school. 

If you are interested in volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank on Wednesday, January 24th, there will be a sign-up sheet in the office or you can send Mrs. Greer a Schoology message. Lunch will be provided and it will be a fun day of helping others and giving back to our community! Any student in junior high or high school will be able to sign up to go. It will be on a first come first serve basis, however, if there is a lot of interest we will schedule a second day. 

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards deadline has been extended to midnight on Friday, December 15th. Any student 13 years or older can enter work in a variety of art and writing categories. The Scholastic Awards are a national program focused on giving creative students access to opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Award winners are eligible for scholarships, cash awards, or tuition assistance. Contact Ms. McClung if you have any questions or need help submitting work for the awards.

Senior Shirt Information is posted in Schoology – students can order individually via the link.  The shirts will be delivered to the school and distributed when we return from Christmas break (January 4th).

For just $1, you can ditch the traditional school attire and swap it for your favorite festive PJs. That’s right, we’re giving you the chance to roll out of bed and head straight to school in comfort while supporting a great cause!

But wait, there’s more! All proceeds from this festive fundraiser will go directly to our incredible Academic Team, helping them achieve even greater heights of success. By participating, you not only get to enjoy a day of ultimate comfort but also contribute to the growth and success of our academic stars.

Spread the word, gather your jolliest PJs, and let’s make December 15th a day to remember! Don’t miss out on the chance to make a difference and show off your holiday spirit in the coziest way possible. Mark your calendars, grab your dollar bills, and get ready to celebrate the season in style. Let’s make this Christmas Pajama Day one for the books! The Monroe Central FCA is selling FCA T-shirts for $15 each. Everyone is welcome to get a shirt, even your parents, siblings, and grandparents. Order forms will be in the office and are due with money on Friday, December 15. Checks should be made out to Monroe Central High School. If you have questions, talk to KP or a FCA leader.

There will be photos with Santa on December 17th from 1pm – 3pm @ 101 S. Main Street, Parker City. Cost is $20 for a 10 minute slot or you can walk-in. Contact Delk Photography on Facebook or call 765-625-0439. All proceeds go to the MCE Cheerleaders.

On Dec. 18th, Monroe Central FFA will be hosting our chapter Christmas party. The party will start at 4:00 pm. Wear your favorite Christmas sweater! Join in on the cookie decorating contest, and Santa will be there! We can’t wait  to see you all there!

The girls and boys County Basketball Tournament will be held at Union on January 3rd-6th, 2024. Presale all session tickets are being sold from December 11th-20th in the high school office from 8am-3pm and on January 3rd from 8am-noon. All session tickets cost $15 and can be used all 4 nights of the tournament. Single session tickets purchased at the door will be $7. 

On Saturday January 13th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in room 144 or send a Schoology to sign up. 

Due to low participation in donations for the food drive the rewards (bear bar & capri sun) will not be given unless we reach a goal of 300 cans of food donated. Please join the competition and donate towards the food drive to help the families in need.

The 8th grade math lab class is hosting the annual Food Drive for Parker City/Randolph County. There will be some friendly competition between:

7th vs. 8th grade

9th vs. 10th grade

11th vs. 12th grade

Each student in the winning classes will receive a bear bar and capri sun. The food drive will run from Monday, 12/4/23  through Friday, 12/15/23. Please help those in need by donating non-perishable food and money during these dates. Each can of food is worth 1 point. Each donated dollar is worth 1 point.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

Monroe Central varsity girls basketball team traveled to South Adams and defeated the Starfires 47-36. Sydney Patterson scored a game high 19 points with 4 steals on the defensive end. Kimber Abshear almost tallied a triple/double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocks. Addy Puckett followed with 8 points and 6 rebounds of her own. The Lady Bears move to 9-2 on the season. They play Lapel at Home on Thursday night with a 7pm start time.

Monroe Central boys freshman basketball team lost a tough one on the road 43-35 to Wapahani. The Bears were leading the Raiders 32-30 with 5:03 to go, but could not seal the upset. Maddox Taylor led the Bears with 15 points and Pierceton Erwin chipped in 10 points. Isaac Middleton added 4 points and Connor Baker, Caden Dance, and Chandler Breedlove rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Breedlove, Erwin, and Middleton were cited for outstanding effort on the boards and Connor Baker was cited for a good defensive effort.

The Monroe Central 8th Grade Boys Basketball team defeated Union City Monday night by a score of 50-40 to improve to 5-4 on the season. A great offensive effort fueled the Bears to victory, matching a season high in points scored. Luke Morgan led the Bears in scoring with 31 points, as Peyton Chamness added 6. Other Bears entered the scoring column as well with Jed Ferguson (5), Eli Friend (4), Gabe McComb (3) and Cooper Huston (2). The Bears return to action Wednesday at Lapel.

The 7th grade Bears came out hot taking an 18-0 lead after the 1st quarter. The Bears did not give up a point until the 3rd quarter. Everyone contributed to a 40-3 win. The Bears were led in scoring by Miles Gross and Dallas Frantz with 10 each. Alex Middleton and Logan Keith each added 6. The Bears improve to 5-3. Next up is a tough Lapel team on Wednesday @ lapel at 5:30!
