The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears volleyball team faced a formidable opponent in the Hagerstown Tigers, falling in two closely contested sets, 17-25, 19-25. Last night the Warriors of Wes-Del came to the Bear Den. Our JV volleyball team started out strong in set 1 earning a 25-21 victory. The Warriors kept at it and prevailed in set 2 with a score of 22-25. The third set proved to be an exciting one and Wes-Del came out just barely on top in set 3 with a score of 15-17.

Our Varsity Lady Golden Bears also came out with a strong start and won set 1 with a score of 26-24. Similar to the JV match, the Warriors stayed determined and won sets 2 and 3 with scores of 17-25 and 15-25. Our Lady Golden Bears put up a fight in set 4 and it was a battle that went beyond 25.  Despite some great efforts, we came up just short with a score of 25-27.  This team continues to have to battle injury and illness.  One of our Varsity players is out injured and another Varsity player was gone due to illness. We had to make some last minute changes to bring JV players up to Varsity to have proper coverage and even ran into problems with players hitting their “max set limit” which is 6 total sets a night. Freshman Bentley Pegg came out on the floor tonight with a much clearer and determined frame of mind and it showed.  In tonight’s match she had 2 aces, 6 kills, 29 receptions, 2 blocks, and 11 digs. Great efforts tonight Bentley! Also notable stats were made by Junior Shyan Bennet with 2 aces, 10 kills, 27 receptions, 4 blocks, and 16 digs; along with Sophomore Raegan Quattlebaum having 2 kills, 6 receptions, and 5 digs.
