The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Winchester Driver Hawks in three sets (25-11, 17-25, 13-15). The Lady Bears started strong in the first set, showcasing their skills and determination. The second set was a challenge; in an attempt to get all players time, rotations were made. The team worked hard and nearly secured a win, but the momentum shift carried into the third set, making it difficult to regain control. Notable contributions came from Haidyn Knott with 3 aces, 1 assist, and 2 digs; Mati McConnell with 3 digs; Bristol Goad with 1 ace; Landry Taylor with 2 assists and 1 dig; Claire Cheesman with 1 ace and 1 kill; Izzy McGrath with 2 kills and 1 block; Callie Grove with 1 kill; Anna Wines with 1 dig; and Ashtyn Baldwin with 1 dig. Despite the setback, the team remains motivated and ready to learn from this experience as they look forward to a possible rematch with Winchester this weekend at the Driver Invitational. The Bears are excited to continue improving and giving it their all!

The Lady Golden Bears Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball squads traveled last night to take on the Royals of Eastern Hancock.  The Junior Varsity squad got off to a nice start and set one was quite close with a score of 23-25.  The Golden Bears seemed to lose steam in set two and that ended with a score of 8-25. Our Varsity team was matched up against a very strong Royals Varsity Squad.  Our Bears didn’t let that change their focus and they actually had some of the strongest competing plays that have been witnessed this season.  For the first time this season the entire team had a great mental effort while on the floor.  You could truly see some of the defensive work they’ve been doing starting to shine through with several competitive rallys that occurred throughout the match.  Final scores for this match were 15-25, 17-25, 11-25.  Junior Angie Burress went out on the court tonight determined to focus on her overall defensive game and work to read proper positioning.  She contributed 1 ace, 12 receptions, and 6 digs to the team totals.  Angie’s defensive game is showing notable improvements this season.  Some other stats to note were from Junior Shyan Bennett with 2 kills, 22 receptions, and 1 dig along with Freshman Bentley Pegg contributing 4 kills, 6 receptions, and 4 digs.
