The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears proved their strength by securing a commendable third place at the Driver Invitational this past Saturday. The tournament featured six strong teams, and the Lady Bears battled their way through three challenging matches, demonstrating resilience and hard work throughout the day. In the first match, the Lady Bears faced Shenandoah, a team they had previously lost to in straight sets earlier in the season. However, this encounter was different, Monroe Central pushed Shenandoah to the limit, taking the match to three sets. The Bears came out strong, winning the first set 25-18. Despite dropping the next two sets 17-25 and 12-15, the Lady Bears showed significant improvement and fought until the final point, refusing to back down against a tough opponent. The second match saw Monroe Central take on a talented South Adams squad. The match was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging blows in a tightly contested battle that went to three sets. The Lady Bears narrowly lost the first set 20-25 but bounced back with a thrilling 25-24 win in the second set, setting up a dramatic final set. In the final set, Monroe Central edged out South Adams 15-14 in a nail-biting finish, securing a hard-fought victory in one of their most thrilling matches of the season. In their final match of the day, the Lady Bears faced off against the host team, Winchester Driver Hawks. This game held extra significance for Monroe Central, as they were eager for redemption after a tough loss to the Hawks just two days earlier. Despite fatigue setting in from a long day of competition, the Lady Bears were determined to end on a high note. They delivered a strong performance, defeating Winchester Driver Hawks in straight sets 25-17, 25-20, and avenging their previous loss. The Lady Bears have a big week ahead.  Starting with a home game against Daleville tonight, they’ll hit the road on Tuesday to take on Randolph Southern, return home on Wednesday to face Selma, and then travel to Southern Wells on Thursday. The week wraps up with the MEC Conference Tournament, where the bears will look to make a strong showing.

The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears continued their strong season with a decisive victory over Daleville, winning in straight sets, 25-10 and 25-15 last night. The Lady Bears showcased a well-rounded performance with strong serving, solid defense, and great teamwork to secure the win. Haidyn Knott led the way with four aces and two assists, helping set the tone early for Monroe Central.  Bristol Goad added four aces and 1 dig. Mati McConnell chipped in with two aces and one dig, providing steady support throughout the match. Landry Taylor contributed with one ace and one kill, while Gracie McCreery added an ace of her own. Ashtyn Baldwin made her presence felt with one kill and one dig, rounding out a well-balanced team effort. The victory was truly an all-around team effort, with all 12 players getting on the court and making significant contributions. The Lady Bears were in control from the start, dominating the entire way. With this win, the Lady Bears improved their record to 8-5. Go BEARS!

On Monday night,  the MC 8th Grade Volleyball team finished the sweep of Daleville with a 2-set victory! The team played hard, and the coach is super proud of them! Highlights included Mckenna Murphy 5 kills, 5 digs, 1 assist, and 1 ace; Lucy Huston with 3 aces, 2 digs, 1 assist, and 1 kill; Emma Pugsley with 4 assists and 1 dig; Gracee Burris with 3 digs; Ivy Phelps with 3 digs and 1 ace; and Robyn Ulrey with 1 ace. The Lady Bears see action again tonight as they travel to Randolph Southern.

The Golden Bears traveled to Shenandoah last night to have a JV/Varsity match up against the Raiders.  Our Junior Varsity battled back and forth especially in set 1.  Even though our Bears put up a good fight they came up short with scores of 19-25 and 16-25. Our Varsity team continues to deal with some illness and injury issues that require us to make adjustments at the very last minute.  One of our adjustments early in the match with an injury replacement seemed to catch our team a bit off balance.  The Raiders kept their focus and won the match with scores of 13-25, 17-25, and 11-25.  Some highlights for the night were from Freshman Bentley Pegg who contributed 2 Aces, 9 Receptions, 1 kill, and an outstanding 14 digs.  Bentley was definitely having a very good defensive night on the court.  Junior Shyan Bennett also had 28 receptions, 14 kills, and 10 digs. Our Lady Golden Bears are back at home on Wednesday (9/25) when they will face off with the Raiders from Wapahani.  JV is scheduled to begin at 6 pm.
