The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears pulled off an exciting victory over the Selma Braves, winning in two hard-fought sets (25-22, 25-19). The first set was a tight battle, with the score tied 10 different times with six lead changes, keeping the outcome uncertain. Neither team could gain a significant edge until the Lady Bears managed to pull ahead in the closing moments, taking the set 25-22. The second set started with much of the same back-and-forth intensity, until Monroe Central found themselves trailing behind 13-8. However, the Bears clawed their way back, gaining a couple of points before Haidyn Knott went on a commanding 5-point serving streak. This momentum was followed by Bristol Goad’s impressive 6-point serving streak, which gave the Bears a convincing lead. Monroe Central maintained control and closed out the set 25-19, sealing the match. Haidyn Knott led the team with 3 aces and 2 assists, while Izzy McGrath dominated at the net making 11 attacks with 3 kills. Landry Taylor added 2 aces and 1 dig, and Gracie McCreery had some great swings at the ball making 2 kills for the night and 1 ace. Bristol Goad chipped in with 2 aces and 1 dig, Claire Cheesman tallied 1 kill, and Mati McConnell recorded 1 dig. With this victory, the Lady Bears continue to build momentum as they approach the end of their season, showcasing their resilience and teamwork in every match. The Lady Bears improved their record to 10-5.

Tonight the Raiders from Wapahani came to the Bear Den to take on our Lady Golden Bears.  Junior Varsity saw some tough competition but certainly worked hard to compete and stay in the match.  Sadly they lost in two sets with scores of 10-25 and 15-25.  Some notable stats were from Sophomore Maria Oliphant with 2 Aces, 1 Kill, 7 Assists, and 4 Digs. Also, Freshman Kinlie Lester contributed 2 Kills, 7 Receptions, and 1 Dig. Our Varsity team was matched up against the ranked #2 team in the state of Indiana.  They greeted this challenge head on and definitely had the right mindset.  In fact, there were several competitive plays made throughout the match tonight which definitely was pleasing to the coaches.  Final scores for the match were 15-25, 11-25 and 11-25.  Leading the way tonight was Junior Shyan Bennett who had 6 kills, 26 receptions and 14 digs.  Also impressive numbers came from Sophomore Raegan Quattlebaum with 3 receptions and 5 Digs. Tomorrow night starts the Varsity Randolph County Tournament where our Lady Golden Bears will face off with the Rockets from Union at Union @ 6 pm.  Make the short drive over to Union and cheer on our Bears as we attempt to qualify for the semi-final round set for Saturday.
