Our 7th grade boys basketball team played a great game against a good Selma Middle School team winning 38-31 in the Bear Den. The Golden Bears are 5-3 on the season. Leum Butler led the scoring with 12. Parker Morris and Knox Myers each had 8. Elijah Keeley had 4. Mason Gilliam, Lleyton Redmon, and Landre McCoy scored 2. The Bears are looking to continue their winning streak into next week as they travel to Union City on Monday.

The 8th grade Golden Bears got out to a slow start but were able to manage only going into halftime down 25-18. The Bears started the second half just as slow and got down 14 at one point. Dallas Frantz got a steal at halfcourt at the beginning of the fourth quarter which started a run. The Bears outscored the Braves 15-4 in the fourth quarter to come back and win 37-36. The team was led in scoring by Miles Gross with 15. He was followed by Braylynn Hunt with 14.

The 7th grade girl’s basketball team took on Northeastern last night at home, defeating the Knights 39-6. The Bears were led in scoring by Mati McConnell with 9, Bristol Goad 7, Izzy McGrath and Landry Taylor 6, Mila Morris 4, Gracie McCreery 3 and 2 apiece from Claire Cheesman and Lillie Moery. Ada Wagner and Brynlee Dumpert both played shut down defense.

The 8th Grade Lady Bears hosted the Northeastern Lady Knights on Thursday and ended the evening as victors, out-jousting the visitors 18-11 and picking up their 7th win of the season. After a slow start that saw them down 3-6 at the end of the first, the Bears defense came to life and they held the visitors to 1 field goal and only 5 points the remainder of the battle. Offense came to life in the second half, backed by great ball movement and good shooting. Landry Taylor and Claire Cheesman had big 3rd quarters, both catapulted well timed triples and scored 5 points each in the period and 8 each for the game. Mila Morris rounded off the scoring with 2 points. Great defense by Lucy Huston, Brynlee Dumpert and Izzy McGrath contributed to the win. Elena Simms and Arianna Carroll both played hard and helped solidify the victory. The Bears play host to Cowan on Monday in an 8th Grade only contest prior to the Varsity’s game against Southern Adams. GO BEARS!!!
