PowerSchool CyberSecurity Incident Information Release

We have been notified by our Student Information System (SIS) vendor, PowerSchool, that on December 28, 2024, they became aware of a cybersecurity breach involving their systems. This breach involved unauthorized access to the SIS database of an overwhelming majority of schools that utilize PowerSchool as their SIS. The breach was isolated to PowerSchool’s system, and our local network was not impacted.

The data accessed involved past and present student and teacher information. PowerSchool has assured us that they believe the incident to be contained and the data accessed has been deleted and will not be released by the threat actor. They are still currently investigating the incident and have stated that in the coming weeks they will be engaging with customers on an individual basis to develop and implement a plan to notify anyone affected by this breach. We have limited information at this time, but PowerSchool has stated that in the coming days, they will be providing all schools with more details to distribute to our school community.

Monroe Central School Corporation will continue to monitor this situation, and as we get updates from PowerSchool, we will send the information out to parents and/or post it to our school webpage. We take the safety and security of our school community very seriously and will be reviewing our policies, procedures, and future relationship with PowerSchool based on the actions they take moving forward.
