The 7th grade Lady Bears basketball team got back to action last night after an extended holiday break by beating the Hagerstown Tigers 32-23. All 10 Bears contributed to the victory and were led in scoring by Izzy McGrath with 10, Mila Morris 9, Claire Cheesman 7, Landry Taylor 4 and Brynlee Dumpert 2. The ladies will open MEC tournament play Wednesday at Selma.
The 8th Grade Lady Bears basketball team hosted the Hagerstown Tigers on Monday evening and despite a tough comeback, were defeated 33-27. The Lady Bears started the game slowly, shaking off rust from their month long hibernation and only scored 5 first half points while giving up 21 to their opponent. The Bears came out of the gates hot in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Hagerstown 10-4 and cutting the lead to 10. Spirited full court defense and effective offensive execution led to MC cutting the deficit to 5 on a couple of occasions in the final period, but their comeback ran out of time and the girls experienced their second loss of the season. MC was led in scoring by Lucy Huston with 9, Landry Taylor with 7, Mila Morris with 6, Izzy McGrath with 3 and Brynlee Dumpert with 2. Claire Cheesman, Mati McConnell and Arianna Carroll all played tough and contributed defensively and on the boards. The Lady Bears play again on Thursday when they travel to Wes-Del. GO BEARS!!!
The 7th grade boys basketball team traveled to Blackford for their first game after Christmas break. The Golden Bears were outmatched by a very talented Bruins team falling 51-19. We look to bounce back tomorrow as we host Delta in Hall gym. Leading scorer for the Bears was Parker Morris with 8 points.
The 8th grade boys basketball team got out with a slow start but managed to go into halftime with a 13-8 lead. The boys came out in the second half and played hard.
