Daily Announcements 01/16/2024

During homecoming week there will be a Bear Necessities competition! Donations such as hair care, body care, oral care, and feminine products will be accepted. There will be boxes in the cafeteria for each class’s donations!

Homecoming dress up days:

Wednesday – Dress like your parents day

Thursday – Dress for the ages (dress any age)

Friday – Crazy brown and gold day

The 2024 Winter Homecoming Dance will be after the game on Friday 1/19 until 10:30PM.  This dance is open to grades 7-12 and will cost $5 at the door. If you are bringing a guest to the dance you will have to have a guest request form on file in the office for this year.

Class of 2025 will be staying after school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 5pm. Please message Mrs. Meranda if you will be staying.

After school tutoring will start back on Tuesday, January 23rd.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

Golden Bear Grapplers finished 2nd in the Randolph County Tourney. 1st round dropped a nail biter to Winchester, coming down to the last match 39-42. 2nd round was just as close but coming out on top 38-37 over Union City before defeating Union 78-6 in the 3rd round. Individually we finished with 7 weight class county champions starting @113 Senior Mak Brainerd, @132 Freshman Gavyn Swoveland, @138 Freshman Cory Brown Jr, @150 Senior Zac Martin, @190 Junior Jerimiah Ullom and at 215 Sophomore Jaiden Long all finished 3-0 our final county champ was @144 Caden Shockney who finished 2-1 but still finished on top of the podium. Your Golden Bear Grapplers are back on the mat this Saturday in the MEC tournament at Cowan HS wrestling starts at 9am. GO BEARS!

Monroe Central archery competed in a 3 way meet with Union City and Winchester this past Saturday. Results were Monroe Central High School 2997, Union City 2732!!! Doug Lankford was Top High School Male with 274. Lucas Holliday was Top Jr High Male with 273 and Kyra Brockman was Top Jr High Female with 274! The archers will be in action again this coming Saturday at home against Randolph Southern. 

The coldest weather of the season outside had no effect on the 8th grade Lady Bears as they turned up the heat inside on the basketball court in the Final Four of the MEC basketball tournament on Saturday. The Bears stormed past Blue River by a final score of 40-8 in their first matchup in the afternoon. In the Championship vs. Eastern Hancock, the Lady Bears got off to a fast start and led the game 29-4 at halftime on their way to a final score of 38-11 to capture the MEC title once again. The ladies did a great job including all of their teammates. 

The 8th grade Lady Bears pulled out a win Monday night against a pesky South Adams team.  The Golden Bears move to 12-0 on the season and are looking forward to playing in Hall Gym Thursday against the Selma  Braves.

The 6th and 7th Grade Lady Bears made the trek to South Adams on Monday night, and returned home with a win – defeating the Starfires 24-15. The Bears held South Adams scoreless in the first period and to 4 first half points. Scoring for MC was spread evenly across the board, with Landry Taylor leading the way with 8. Mila Morris added 6, Lucy Huston and Izzy McGrath had 4 each and Gracie McCreery contributed 2. All 12 players saw the floor and contributed to the win. The Lady Bears move to 8-2 on the season and play at home this Thursday where they will look to avenge their recent loss to Selma in the MEC tournament. Go Bears!
