There will be a student advocate meeting today, January 23rd, right after school in room 106.

The MC FFA will hold their chapter meeting after school today, January 23rd. We hope to see members there!

Volunteers are needed for the Archery State Qualifier!! The Archery State Qualifier is scheduled for Saturday, January 27th, at MCE. Thirteen teams have signed up so far – almost 300 archers! We need volunteers to enter scores into a spreadsheet after each flight. The first round of scores would need to be entered around 8:30 am, and the final round should be around 3:30 pm. The Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball invitational has been rescheduled for this Sunday January 28th, from 10:30AM to 4PM, at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in room 144 or send a Schoology to sign up.  

Sophomores and Juniors: Just a reminder MACC applications CLOSE on Jan 31st. If you plan to attend the MACC next school year, you must have an application on file. Access the online application at this link: https://bit.ly/3ukebYD 

After School Help will start again Tuesday and Thursday until 4.

There will be a Sweetheart’s Dance on Saturday, February 10th from 7-9pm for students in grades 7-12. Cost is $8 per person or $15 per couple. Tickets will be sold at the door the night of the dance. Dance request forms for students who do not attend MC are due back by Wednesday, February 7th.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

The varsity Lady Bears traveled to Cowan last Thursday, January 18th to pick up their 14th win of the season. The Bears defeated the Blackhawks, 45-20 after racing out to a 31-8 halftime lead. Monroe Central is now 14-6 on the season. Sydney Patterson scored a game high 26 points followed by Addy Puckett and Kimber Abshear scoring 8 points a piece. Gracie Baker rounded out the scoring column with 3 points. The Lady Bears host the Delta Eagles on 1/23, this will also be Senior Night for Gracie Baker and Maggie Haney!

The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team defeated the Blackford Bruins on Monday evening, winning 31-19 on the Bruins turf and improving their record to 9 wins and 2 losses. The Bears scored on the opening tip and never looked back, winning every quarter and cruising to victory with every girl seeing the court and contributing to the win. Mila Morris led the way for the Bears with 9 points to go with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Landry “The Glove” Taylor tormented the Bruins, collecting 11 steals to go with her 8 points and 3 rebounds. Izzy McGrath looked like a young Giannis on the boards, pulling down 9 rebounds to go with her 6 points. Lucy Huston had 4 points to go with 4 steals and Claire Cheesman rounded off the scoring with 4 points. The Lady Bears travel on Tuesday for a matchup with conference and county rivals, the Randolph Southern Rebels. Go Bears!

After a lackluster start to Monday nights game at Blackford, The 8th grade Lady Bears came out of the locker room after halftime with a different outlook on their way to a 46-9 win. Brynlee Patterson got the Bears fired up with a go ahead 3 pointer to begin the half on her way to 9 pts and a game high 5 steals. Aberee Ervin continued to improve on her passing game as she led the team with 7 assists while getting 4 steals and 10 points of her own.  Charlee Morris led all scorers with a season high 15 points.  Oaklei Davis nearly had a triple-double with 9 Blocked shots, 8 points and 15 rebounds. Aggressive play by Haidyn Dumpert led way to 4 jump ball tie ups and 6 rebounds, Brylie Tinsman and Abby Thomas each scored a bucket to round out the scoring and Kayleigh Epperhart added a couple steals. The 8th grade is now 14-0 with 2 games remaining in the regular season.
