Daily Announcements 01/24/2024

UPDATE!!! From now on, dance request forms will need to be approved for each dance. We will no longer accept one dance request per person for the year. Each dance you will need to fill out a new request form and return it to the office. Forms will be due the Wednesday before the dance. 

The FCA is inviting everyone to FCA night on Saturday, January 27th from 5-8pm. There will be dodgeball, pizza, fellowship, devotion, and more!!! Please sign up in the office, any grade is welcome! 

Volunteers are needed for the Archery State Qualifier!! The Archery State Qualifier is scheduled for Saturday, January 27th, at MCE. Thirteen teams have signed up so far – almost 300 archers! We need volunteers to enter scores into a spreadsheet after each flight. The first round of scores would need to be entered around 8:30 am, and the final round should be around 3:30 pm. The Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball invitational has been rescheduled for this Sunday January 28th, from 10:30AM to 4PM, at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in room 144 or send a Schoology to sign up.  

Sophomores and Juniors: Just a reminder MACC applications CLOSE on Jan 31st. If you plan to attend the MACC next school year, you must have an application on file. Access the online application at this link: https://bit.ly/3ukebYD 

After School Help will start again Tuesday and Thursday until 4.

There will be a Sweetheart’s Dance on Saturday, February 10th from 7-9pm for students in grades 7-12. Cost is $8 per person or $15 per couple. Tickets will be sold at the door the night of the dance. Dance request forms for students who do not attend MC are due back by Wednesday, February 7th. 

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

The MC 7th grade Golden Bears defeated Randolph Southern 39-6. The Bears were led in scoring by Miles Gross with 15 and Carter Lucies with 11. After a slow first quarter the Bears picked it up offensively and defensively and only allowed 4 points the rest of the game, and gave up 0 in the 2nd half. The boys are back in action this Saturday for the county tourney @ rival Driver. Go Bears!

The Monroe Central 8th Grade Boys Basketball team defeated rival Randolph Southern on Monday night by a score of 44-12 to improve to 11-9 on the year. Great team effort combined with a solid performance on the defensive end fueled the Bears to the 30-point victory. A great offensive second half helped push the Bears ahead, as multiple Bears got into the scoring column, led by Luke Morgan with 14. The Bears are back in action Saturday as they play in the Randolph County Tournament at Winchester Driver. First game is at 10 AM vs Union City. GO BEARS!

The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team traveled to Randolph Southern on Tuesday and defeated a scrappy Lady Rebel squad, 31-12. All 12 MC players saw significant floor time and contributed to the win. Landry Taylor continued her defensive thievery and was rewarded with several fast break layups. She led all scorers with 15 points. Gracie McCreery scored 6 points and assisted in several others thanks to her defense and court vision. Mila Morris and Claire Cheesman added 4 points each and Lucy Huston had 2. The entire team displayed good ball movement, tough defense and great passing which resulted in a fun evening of basketball and the Lady Bears gaining their 10th victory of the season. The Bears play their last home game on Thursday against Union City. Go Bears!

The 8th grade Lady Bears traveled down to Lynn on a foggy Tuesday night to face off against Randolph Southern. The Bears got off to a fast start as Oaklei Davis got the opening tip right to Aberee Ervin for a quick deuce followed by a trey from the top of the key by Brynlee Patterson who scored 8 of her 12 points in the first Quarter. Ervin led all scorers with 17, Charlee Morris added 6, Haidyn Dumpert tossed in 4pts, Oaklei Davis, Brylie Tinsman and Abby Thomas each had a bucket of their own, while Kayleigh Epperhart chipped in with several steals and rebounds. The Bears pushed their record to 15-0, and will be playing their 3rd game of the week and regular season finale Thursday at home vs. Union City.
