The 6th and 7th grade Lady Bears played host to Union City on Thursday evening and came away with the victory, defeating the Indians 27-10 and improving their record to 11-2. Initially, the Bears resembled carnival players shooting at the midway long range, but a well executed end of quarter inbounds bucket gave spark to the Bears and they remembered how to fit the ball in the hoop. Tenacity on defense was key to holding the Indians to 3 first half points with the entire team locking down their assignments and causing several 5 second calls and forced turnovers. Mila Morris led the Bears in scoring with 8 points. Landry Taylor, Izzy McGrath, Lucy Huston and Mati McConnell all had 4 points each. Brynlee Dumpert splashed a wet jumper and Gracie McCreery made a free throw to round out the scoring column. The Lady Bears travel to Muncie Southside on Monday for their final regular season game. Go Bears!
The 8th grade Lady Bears played their final Home Game of the season Thursday night in front of a near capacity crowd at Hall Gym as they came out victorious for the 16th time this season. The early momentum came from the usual winning tip by Oaklei Davis to Aberee Ervin who made a quick pass to Sir Charles Morris to score a bucket within the first 4 seconds of the game. Some improved hard nose defense by the Bears would hold their opponent to only 1 point on the evening, a season high 20 steals on the night with Morris getting a team high 7 steals while scoring 8 points, Ervin added 5 steals & 6 assists to go along with 14 points. Brynlee Patterson added 5 points and 4 assists with an impressive 0 turnovers. Haidyn Dumpert led the team in the rebound column hauling in 5 while Oaklei Davis added 6 pts and 3 blocks of her own. Brylie Tinsman swished a 3 pointer mid-way through the 3rd qtr. Abby Thomas, Lillian Konke and Kayleigh Epperhart all played well with zero turnovers. The Lady Bears will spend the next week preparing for the County Tournament, which will be played February 3rd at Randolph Southern.
