Daily Announcements 04/22/2024

There will be a high school dodgeball tourney on Friday May 3 in the afternoon. The sign up forms are on your class schoology page. The teams consist of 8 students with at least 3 girls. The teams do not all have to consist of students from the same grade. If you have questions, see  Addison Coe, Maggie Haney, or Katie Osborne.

JH & HS Cheerleading tryouts for current 6th-11th graders is next Wednesday (4/24) and Thursday (4/25) beginning at 5:30PM in Hall Gym. These are clinic days to learn material. Saturday (4/27) at 10:00AM in Hall Gym is tryouts. The HS parent meeting is Wednesday at 7:00PM and the JH parent meeting is Thursday at 7:00PM. To register for tryouts please scan the QR code on the flier in the Elementary or HS offices.”

On Monday, April 22nd, Monroe Central FFA will be hosting our monthly Chapter Meeting!  The meeting will start at 4:00 pm. Can’t wait to see you all there!

Seniors – Jostens will be here on April 23rd during lunch to pass out caps and gowns and other senior items.

Help raise money for the 2024 MC 6K Water Project! Students in grades PK-12 will be competing in Money Wars where students may drop money in plastic containers during their lunch time. This will continue until Friday, April 26. The grade level that brings in the most money will earn a pizza party courtesy of the Farmland and Parker Fire Departments. Last year, there were two winning grade levels and those students chose to donate the pizza money back to World Vision in lieu of the pizza party.

The Indiana Youth Advisory Board (IYAB) is now accepting applications! The IYAB offers young people, ages 14-24, an opportunity to learn about public health issues and come up with ideas and projects to improve the health and well-being of other young people in Indiana. Members of IYAB meet virtually with their peers for at least two hours each month to work on collaborative, creative, youth-driven initiatives related to mental health, public health, and their interests. Positions on the board are paid, and an application is required. Youth can apply via the link provided. https://forms.office.com/g/a0xbExLvUe  The application deadline is April 19, 2024.

Varsity baseball results from Thursday, April 18:

Daleville – 5

Monroe Central – 7

Bears overcome an early deficit to upend Conference foe Daleville 7-5 Thursday. Kyler Bogue led the way at the plate with 2 hits and an RBI. Other Bears contributing hits were Luedike, Duncan, Tinsman, Middleton, and Walker. A total team effort kept the Bears in the game. Solid pitching performance by Middleton, Pence, and Cooper. 

The varsity softball team lost to Tri 16-3 Friday. Aubrey Johnson went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Makaylah Brainerd, Zoie Hood, and Whitley Martin went 1-3. Macy Cummins scored a run and a stolen base. Martin also added an RBI. The Bears are back in action at Cowan at 5:30p on Tuesday.

The Golden Bear Trackmen competed Saturday at the Muncie Relays, taking home 2nd place scoring 81 points! Boys top performers:

Eli Chamberlain – 1600m run (3rd place) and 3200m run (3rd place)

Zac Martin -Lung Jump (1st place) and 100m dash (4th place)

Easton Foster – High Jump (1st place) and Long Jump (2nd place)

Ethan Hunt – 100m dash (2nd place)

Zadok Lloyd – 1600m run (5th place) and 3200m run (6th place)

Evan Swallow – Discus Throw – (6th Place)

4x100m relay (Whitehead / Ludington / Martin / Hunt) – 3rd place

Sprint Medley Relay – (Whitehead / Ludington / Hunt / Martin) – 3rd Place

Distance Medley Relay – (Lloyd / Brown / Wines / Chamberlain) – 2nd Place

The Lady Bears track team competed at the Turtle Town Classic Saturday at Churubusco High School coming in 12th Place! Girls Top Performers:

Addison Coe – 1600m run (6th place) and 3200m run (4th place)

Katie Osborne – 800m (8th place)

Maggie Haney – Shot Put (8th place)

4x800m Relay – (Osborne / Puckett / Watson / Thomas) 4th Place

Next meet is Tuesday 4/23 against Winchester and Tri at Winchester.

The boys varsity golf team traveled to Wabash Valley Golf Course in Geneva for the South Adams Invitational. The Bears battled the cold and winds to place 4th out of 12 teams. The Bears shot a 357 for the first 18 hole invite of the year. The Bears were led by Bentley Thornburg’s 85. Just behind him was Cohen West with an 86. Coltan West carded an 89, Hayden Taylor finished with a 97, and Gabe Rees rounded out the scores with a 115.
