Daily Announcements 05/03/2022

The Junior High Academic Team students did an awesome job at the Junior Area Academic Superbowl this weekend. The Math team placed 1st in class and 4th overall. The English team placed 1st in class. The Social Studies team placed 2nd in class, and the Science and Interdisciplinary teams placed 3rd in class. Great job, everyone!

Friday afternoon we will have a field day to end spirit week. There will be grilled hotdogs, bear bars, and water bottles for sale in the concession area.

Prom will be on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 from 8pm-11pm at The Wedding Factory in Albany, IN. Venue doors open at 7:45pm and will close at 8:30pm. Tickets will be available in the front office or at lunch. Cost: $35.00 for a singles ticket & $50.00 for a couples ticket.

Grand March will take place before prom and begin at 4pm here at MC. Doors will open at 3:15pm. Please fill out the Grand March Student List available in Schoology. Each class (Juniors & Seniors) will find the link within your own Schoology class groups. Thank you! This will help with collecting names for that afternoon.

The FFA Floriculture Team is making boutonnieres and bouquets for all juniors and seniors going to prom. These will be artificial flowers so you can keep them as a keepsake forever. Sign up in the office and talk to Becky, Mr Weiler, or Mrs Thornburg for pricing!

Attention Current Juniors – Monroe Central School Corporation is looking at hiring students in the following areas: technology, transportation, athletics, and maintenance. Based on student availability and academic schedules you would be hired for Summer 2022 and 2022-2023 school year. Employment/internship participation will be part of the Career Exploration Internship program during the school year. You can pick up an application in Student Services. Once you turn in an application, the second step to potential employment is an interview with the supervisor. See Mr. Retherford for more information.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter? If that’s you, please know that our local volunteer fire departments are always looking for new recruits to their departments. If this is something you are interested in, please stop by and see Mr. Retherford and/or send him a Schoology message. He can get you in contact with the local fire chiefs.

Reminder to all students – we are still doing a 4th quarter grade challenge. Your name will be put in for a drawing for every grade that you improve (or keep an A) between the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter. Let’s finish the school year off strong!

EDMENTUM STUDENTS: ALL Edmentum discussions will be due by May 13th and Unit Activities will be due by May 20th. All computer-graded tests will be due the last day of school, May 26th. No discussions or unit activities will be graded after this date. If you don’t finish your course with a passing grade by May 26th, you will be asked to attend summer school to finish or start the course over again next school year.

Ball State University will be hosting Free Summer Writing Camps for Youth in June. Students in grades 4th – 12th. Each camp will help students build their writing skills while having fun and teach them how to collaborate with one another. Information sheets on dates, times and how to register are located in Student Services.

Monroe Central will be hosting IHSAA sports physicals this June with Dr. Lumpkin. We have two dates available but will fill the June 9th date first before using the June 16th date. The cost is $20 and must be paid when signing up with Mrs. Murray in the HS office.

Indiana Wesleyan University is offering camps in Engineering, Forensic Science, Writing, Nursing, Urban Farming, Computer Science, Art and MANY MORE during the week of June 19-24, 2022. For more information check out www.indwes.edu/summer-academy.

The Varsity Baseball Bears swept a double header on Saturday against Alexandria 10-5 and 11-0. In Game 1, Aidyn Coffey hit 2 homeruns while Caleb Snyder hit 1. Coffey had 3 hits while Synder and Lane Wilson each had 2 hits. Snyder pitched four strong innings to earn the win. In Game 2, Brayden Matheny pitched the 5 inning complete game striking out 11 and giving up just 2 hits. Snyder had 3 hits for the Bears. With 2 hits apiece were Coffey, Wilson, and Matheny. Great job to the baseball team.

The Jr high track teams competed in the conference meet Friday night. The boys placed 4th of 10 teams. Jackson Wines is the conference champion in the 800M run. Other notable performances were turned in by Noah Keeley, Ethan Hunt, Alexander Coe, Max Wagner, Evan Swallow, Cohen West, Zadok Lloyd, Dylan Painter, and Corbin Lester. The girls team are the MEC champions, placing 1st of 10 teams! Liz Chamberlain is the overall champion in High Jump. Chelsea Erwin took 1st place in Long Jump. The 400M relay team of Avery Thomas, Chamberlain, Ava Phelps, and Erwin also won their event! Other notable performances were turned in by Brylie Tinsman, Abby Thomas, Andi Watson, Kinlie Lester, and Oakley Davis.

The Varsity Softball team lost against Tipton 13-6 Friday night. The Bears were led by Alex McGrath going 3 for 4. Tessa Chesher also launched her second home run of the season. Tessa Chesher and Aubrey Johnson both worked on the mound to keep a good offensive team off balance. The Bears are back in action on Monday at home against Union County.
