Tonight the Lady Golden Bears JV and Varsity had their first matches of the season at home against the Indians of Union City.

Due to limited player availability the JV match was only a 2 set match. The Golden Bears started out strong in set 1 with a 25-14 victory. The Indians rebounded in set 2 and got out to a nice lead of 11-16. The Golden Bears didn’t give up though and fought back. Sadly, they came up just short in the second set 23-25. Unfortunately, a 3rd set was unable to be played this evening but a great effort was made by both teams.

The Varsity match tonight was quite exciting to watch. The Golden Bears got off to a slow start and let the Indians take Set One 19-25. However, they did a nice job of regrouping and taking the next three sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-18) to establish their first win of the season. The Lady Golden Bears were led by Junior Shyann Bennett with 13 kills, 6 aces, and 2 blocks along with Junior Addi Grove having 14 kills, 6 aces, and 2 blocks. Additionally, Junior setter Sophia Bolton had 32 assists. The Golden Bears will be back in action on Thursday (8/22) against top state ranked Muncie Burris at home.
