The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears delivered a dominant performance last night, securing a decisive victory over the Northeastern Knights in a thrilling three-set match. The Bears claimed the first set with a commanding 25-10 win, faced a narrow 23-25 loss in the second, and then bounced back to clinch the third set 15-8. In a true team effort, all 12 of Monroe Central’s players saw action on the court, contributing to the win. Haidyn Knott led the charge from the service line with an impressive 8 aces, while Bristol Goad added 6 aces while serving 14 straight points, keeping the Knights on their heels throughout the match. Callie Grove also shined with 4 aces, demonstrating the depth of Monroe Central’s serving power.
Izzy McGrath was a force at the net. once again, recording 5 kills and 2 blocks, effectively disrupting Northeastern’s offensive efforts. Landry Taylor played a crucial role as the team’s playmaker, dishing out 6 assists that set up key plays and ensured the Bears’ victory.
The Lady Bears’ strong performance underscores their potential as they continue their season. With contributions from every player, Monroe Central is building a solid foundation for future success.
In their best game of the season so far, the 8th grade volleyball team fell short to Northeastern 23-25, 25-24, 12-15. Highlight performances included Emma Pugsley with 6 assists, 1 kill, 1 ace. McKenna Murphy had 5 kills. May Morrison had 4 kills and 2 aces. Lucy Huston had 4 assists, 2 aces, and 1 dig. Gracee Burris had a pair of aces; Ivy Phelps had a pair of digs; Braelynn Gibbs grabbed her first dig of the year. Coach Sims is super proud of the energy and effort on the court all night long.
The Lady Golden Bears were on the road last Thursday night to take on the Knights of Northeastern. Our JV team was battling some illness last night so we had to make some last minute moves to the rotation. Everyone did a nice job stepping up and dealing with these changes. Unfortunately, our Golden Bears came up short with scores of 11-25 and 10-25. The Varsity team came out looking pretty strong to start the first set making some nice defensive plays with their attack coverage. The Knights were serving well making our service reception off balance. Our Lady Golden Bears came up short of taking any of the sets last night with scores of 14-25, 15-25, and 14-25. Junior Shyann Bennet stood out tonight as she is continuing to strengthen her attack and ball placement while at the net. Tonight she had 8 kills, 3 digs, and 1 ace. Her leadership skills on the court tonight definitely stood out.
The Golden Bear Football team won their second game of the season last week at Union City 57-25. The win made the Bear’s Randolph County Champions. The team matches up in a big game this Friday at home against ranked and juggernaut conference rival North Decatur. Both teams are undefeated. Go Bears!
