The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears cruised to a convincing victory over the Union City Indians, winning in straight sets (25-6, 25-15) to improve their season record to 4-2. The Lady Bears showcased a well-rounded team effort as all 12 players got a chance to contribute on the court. Haidyn Knott led the way with an impressive performance, tallying 6 aces, 2 kills, and 2 assists. Callie Grove was also a standout, recording 3 aces and 3 kills. Landry Taylor distributed the ball effectively, notching 3 assists and adding an ace to her stats. Bristol Goad dished out 2 assists and Claire Cheesman tallied 2 aces. Izzy McGrath had 1 ace and 2 kills, while Mati McConnell added to the offense with a good kill. Gracie McCreery continued her reliable play with 1 ace and 3 kills, and Anna Wines rounded out the team’s scoring with an ace. The Lady Bears’ dominant win highlights their growing synergy as a team, and with contributions from every player, they are setting themselves up for a strong second half of the season. The Lady Bears will face Cowan at home in their next match on Monday, looking to build on their recent victory and extend their winning record.
The 8th Grade Girls’ Volleyball team took home their first win of the season on Thursday against Union City! Lucy Huston ran the court with 4 aces, 2 kills, 2 assists, and a dig. McKenna Murphy was dominant at the net with 5 kills and 2 aces, followed by May Morrison with 3 kills and 3 aces. Emma Pugsley had 3 assists at setter, Alyssa Childress had 1, and Ivy Phelps had an ace as the team’s libero. Coaching staff is very proud of the effort and aggression that we’ve been working so hard to reach.
Our Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball teams traveled to take on the Eagles of Delta. Our Junior Varsity is currently missing a player right now but they came out with a positive mindset and made some good runs tonight. The Eagles ended up victorious in two sets with scores of 10-25 and 18-25. Special mention should go to Sophomore Taylor Oren with adding 1 ace, 7 receptions, and 3 digs towards the team totals.
The Varsity team knew coming into this match that they were up against a tough Eagles team. In fact, just the night before, this Eagles team upset Muncie Burris in a 3-0 sweep. The goal for our team was to focus on our mental toughness on the floor and to celebrate the winning plays we make. The Eagles came out strong as ever and did end up winning in three sets with scores of 9-25, 10-25, and 9-25 but our Lady Golden Bears also accomplished some things tonight. This was one of the better mentally focused nights the coaches have witnessed this season. We had to overcome an obstacle right away in the first set with Junior Addi Grove going down with an ankle injury. Only having one possible substitution, our team kept focus and kept their spirits high doing the best they possibly could with it. A huge shoutout to our player of the night tonight being Junior Angie Burress. Angie came out with the right frame of mind in tonight’s match. She was on point with her mental game which translated to some nice stats as well. She had 16 service receptions and an impressive 9 digs. Angie’s efforts were top notch on the floor tonight. Also as a special note, Senior Kaylee Swift stepped up and played a position she was not used to tonight and was able to get a kill while playing that front row. This Saturday (9/14/24) we have the Varsity Golden Bear Invite here in the Bear Den. There will be 6 teams playing in this tournament. Match play starts at 9 am.
