The Academic Team had an amazing first meet with a second place win from our Social Studies Team of Noah Bootcheck, Julia Smith, and Bentley Thornburg. The Interdisciplinary Team of Noah Bootcheck, Matilde Ibarre, Ava Pohl, and Elijah Taylor tied with Union County for a second place win, and the Math team of Noah Bootcheck, Julia Smith, Elijah Taylor, and Logan Walker placed third in their round. Our next meet is Wednesday, February 1 here at Monroe Central.
Congratulations to Noah Bootcheck, Ava Pohl, Macie Parker, & Bentley Thornburg on a great job in the State Quiz Bowl competition in Ft. Wayne. While they did not advance to the state meet, they were very competitive and represented Monroe Central very well. Great job to our Quiz Bowl Team.
John Hopkins University will be hosting a Virtual Summer Program for students in grades 9-12. Students from around the world learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine. The conference consists of a series of multiple virtual events on multiple days throughout June-August 2023. The conference application will be accepted until March 31, 2023. See Mrs. Swift in Student Services for more information. (1/30)
Mr. Retherford is looking for student and staff volunteers to help this Saturday night at our Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. Help is needed from 4:30-8:00 p.m. You can help during part of or all of this time. The fundraiser is for our Student Activity Account. This account is used for multiple purposes to assist with activities here at school, including for prizes for our positive behavior ticket system. If you are able to help, please send a Schoology message to Mr. Retherford. He will then get in touch with you.
Grades 9-12: The link to vote for the 2023 homecoming king and queen is now on schoology. Voting will stop Wednesday the 25th.
Homecoming dress up days:
Tuesday: Scrabble – spell a word with your friends
Wednesday: Disney Day
Thursday: Rhyme w/o reason (ex. pig/wig)
Friday: Crazy brown and gold (Seniors wear your senior shirt!)
There will be a homecoming dance after the boys varsity basketball game on Friday night until 11pm. Cost is $5 per person. If you plan on bringing a student from another school, please have a dance request form returned to the school by Friday.
On Saturday February 11th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in Room 144 to sign up.
The Monroe Central Archery Club and Monroe Central Archery Boosters would like to congratulate the following archers who competed in the Monroe Central State Qualifier this past Saturday: Doug Lankford, Top overall male and Top High School Male; Wyatt Daniels, Top Middle School Male; Noah Moery 2nd place Middle School Male. Top 12 all Tournament Team Members are Doug Lankford, Wyatt Daniels, Noah Moery, Nathan Daniels and Colton Johnson. Congratulations MC Archers, Go Bears!!
The boys varsity basketball team traveled to Eastern Hancock Friday night and lost 59-31. The Bears were led in scoring by Easton Foster and Alden Mahaffey with 11 points apiece. Easton also added 7 rebounds. The JV boys basketball team also lost to Eastern Hancock, 59-19. The Bears were led in scoring by Justus Ullom with 12. Carter Duncan led the Bears in rebounding with 5. The Bears crossed over the county line Saturday night to play Yorktown. Hayden Taylor played an extraordinary game with 18 points. Cole Munchel added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Easton Foster added 9 points. The Bears next game is Friday at home against Blue River.
Monroe Central Wrestling which only fills 6 of 14 weights finishes 4th out of 9 teams. Just 8 pts out of 3rd, with 4 champions 3 winning their first MEC championship @145 Junior Zac Martin and @170 Sophomore Jerimiah Ullom while running his record to 19-0 and @195 Senior Kolten Tinsman. Senior Hunter Page runs his season record to 30-0 as he captured his 4th MEC championship. Finishing 3rd were @160 Junior Cade Goodrich and @220 Clay Smith. State tournament starts next weekend at the Delta Sectional that will also be where Hunter Page will become the All Time wins leader in program history as he will pass former Golden Bear grappler Logan Swallow achieving more than 142 wins.
