Daily Announcements 1/24/2023
Senior Photo: We are going to move forward with taking the senior picture this Friday. Please wear your Navy Blue ’23 shirts with signatures this Friday or bring it with you for the photo. We will meet in the main gym at 10:30 am to snap the picture. Please listen for the announcement on Friday to head to the main gym.
Senior Breakfast: On Friday morning, from 7:15 to 8 am there will be a senior breakfast available in the library for each of you. You may stop in during that time to sit down and enjoy a bite to eat before your day begins. By chance, if we happen to have a 2 hour delay, we will still offer breakfast…just a few hours later ( 9:15-10am).
Grades 9-12: The link to vote for the 2023 homecoming king and queen is now on schoology. Voting will stop Wednesday the 25th.
Homecoming dress up days:
Wednesday: Disney Day
Thursday: Rhyme w/o reason (ex. pig/wig)
Friday: Crazy brown and gold (Seniors wear your senior shirt!)
There will be a homecoming dance after the boys varsity basketball game on Friday night until 11pm. Cost is $5 per person. If you plan on bringing a student from another school, please have a dance request form returned to the school by Friday.
Mr. Retherford is looking for student and staff volunteers to help this Saturday night at our Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. Help is needed from 4:30-8:00 p.m. You can help during part of or all of this time. The fundraiser is for our Student Activity Account. This account is used for multiple purposes to assist with activities here at school, including for prizes for our positive behavior ticket system. If you are able to help, please send a Schoology message to Mr. Retherford. He will then get in touch with you.
On Saturday February 11th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in Room 144 to sign up.
John Hopkins University will be hosting a Virtual Summer Program for students in grades 9-12. Students from around the world learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine. The conference consists of a series of multiple virtual events on multiple days throughout June-August 2023. The conference application will be accepted until March 31, 2023. See Mrs. Swift in Student Services for more information. (1/30)
Monroe Central C Team improved to 3-2 on the season with a convincing hole opening win 48-16 over Union City. The Bears were led in scoring by Jackson Konkle’s 14 points, Griffin Gannom added 12 points, Cohen West chipped in 6 points with Kyler Bogue, Julius Ullom, and Max Wagner adding 4 points each. Dylan Summers and Noah Keeley rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Justice Davis was cited with improved defensive play and Julius Ullom had 11 rebounds. The Bears host Winchester on Wednesday.
Monroe Central Jr. High girls won against Blackford Middle School Monday night 50-15. Brynlee Patterson leading the way with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, Aberee Ervin had 13 points, 9 steals, and 3 rebounds, Olivia Conklin added 9 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 1 block, Oaklei Davis contributed with 2 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 block, Charlee Morris added 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. There was an extra quarter played for the seventh grade, Monroe Central won 4-0. Callie Rowe had 2 points, and 1 rebound, Brylie Tinsman had 2 points, and 1 rebound, Charlee Morris had 3 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal, Jaycee Lounsbury had 1 steal, and 1 assist, Kayleigh Epperhart had 2 steals, and 1 Deflection.
The Monroe Central 7th Grade Boys Basketball team suffered a loss at the hands of conference and county foe Randolph Southern by a score of 28-24. Despite the loss, great effort was made as well as learning and teaching lessons. Great defensive stretches were made in both halves to keep the Bears in the game, despite some offensive struggles, especially in the second half. The Bears were led in scoring by Peyton Chamness with 10 and Myles Oliphant with 6. The Bears return the action on Saturday for the Randolph County Tournament at Union. The Bears will face Union City in the opening round at 11:20 AM.
The 8th grade boys defeated Randolph Southern 52 to 21 last night. This was a great team effort as the defense held the Rebels to 12 first half and 9 second half points. Pierceton Erwin led 7 players in scoring with 15 points. He was followed by Conner Baker with 12. The Bears play Union City in the first game of the County Tourney at 10 am Saturday morning at Union.
