The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears faced a tough Blackford Bruins team last night, losing in three sets (14-25, 31-29, 10-15). Despite a slow start, the Lady Bears managed to find momentum late in the second set, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Blackford’s solid play.

The Bruins came out strong in the first set, dominating the court with aggressive serves and solid defense. Monroe Central had difficulty finding their footing, resulting in a lopsided 14-25 loss. In the second set, the Lady Bears finally found some rhythm. The set turned into a marathon, with both teams fighting point for point. Monroe Central’s determination paid off, and they managed to squeeze out a hard-fought 31-29 win to force a third set. However, the Bruins regained control in the final set, quickly pulling away as the Lady Bears couldn’t maintain their momentum. Blackford’s powerful serves and consistent play proved too much, leading to a 10-15 loss in the deciding set. Mati McConnell led the Lady Bears’ serving efforts, notching 5 aces and adding 1 dig. Izzy McGrath was a force at the net, recording 4 blocks and 3 kills to keep Monroe Central competitive. Haidyn Knott chipped in with 2 aces, 2 assists, and 2 digs, while Bristol Goad anchored the defense with 5 digs and 1 assist. Landry Taylor added 2 digs and 2 assists, and Alyssa Chalfant contributed with 1 kill. Looking ahead, the Lady Bears aim to bounce back as they travel to face Union, a county school, on Thursday. They are also gearing up for the highly anticipated county tournament on October 12th, where they hope to showcase their growth and competitiveness.

The 8th Grade Volleyball won another nail-biter match last night against Blackford at home. May Morrison led team efforts with 7 aces, 7 kills, and 3 digs. Ivy Phelps pulled out 7 digs and 1 ace. Mckenna Murphy had 3 digs and 3 aces. Lucy Huston had 3 aces, 3 digs, and 3 assists. Emma Pugsley had 2 digs, 1 assist, and 1 ace. Gracee Burris had 2 digs. Robyn Ulrey had 1 ace. The Lady Bears take on Union Thursday night in their last game of the regular season.
