Daily Announcements 10/28/2022

This is Red Ribbon Week, a week dedicated to educating youth across the country on the dangers of substance abuse. Here are some statistics for you today to ponder:
Teens who consistently learn about the risks of drugs from their parents are up to 50% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t.
One of the keys is to delay that first-time use for as long as possible.
9 out of 10 people with addiction started in their teen years. Research shows the average age of first-time use is 13-14. If first-time use is delayed by 12-24 months, the likelihood of addiction drops dramatically.
Youth are 6.5 times more likely to become addicted if they try drugs before age 21.

There will be a JH girls basketball call out meeting from 12:15-12:45 in hall gym.

Interested in dancing and performing to music? Do you need an expressive outlet? Want to learn to toss objects like flags, sabres, and rifles into the air and catch them effortlessly as people watch in amazement? Try Color Guard! Any 7-12 student interested in joining the Color Guard should attend an informational meeting Friday during the last Activity Period in the band room.

Whether writing lyrics to music or writing sonnets about nature, young people have important things to say. The Indiana Arts Commission seeks to celebrate young voices and youth poetry through its Poetry Ourselves program. Poetry Ourselves is a statewide original poetry competition for students in grades 9-12. Students have the option to submit either a written poem or a recording of a spoken-word poem. Poems will be judged by a panel of qualified professional poets, writers, and field experts. Cash prizes are available to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in both the written and spoken word categories. Contact Mrs. Braswell for more information on how to apply!

Archery sign-up sheets are in the office.

It’s Socktober! The Anchor Club is collecting donations of new socks for the Journey Home veterans shelter and the Parker City nursing home. Please bring any donations to the front office.
