MC’s annual Poetry Out Loud competition is this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the school library. Best of luck to Ivon Padilla, Matilde Ibarra, Aubrey Miller, and Bayli Baker-Swift!
Students who received a Second Harvest study trip permission slip last Friday, need to turn those in this week.
The High School Student Council will be sponsoring dress up days during finals week. There is no cost. Please, remember that finals days are very important and these dress up days should not be a distraction to testing.
Monday will be pajama day.
Tuesday will be ugly Christmas sweater day.
The girls and boys County Basketball Tournament will be held at Union City on January 4th-7th, 2023. Presale all session tickets are available December 12th-21st and January 3rd-4th in the high school office from 8am-3pm. All session tickets cost $15 and are good for all 4 nights of the tournament. Single session tickets purchased at the door will be $7.
Softball open gyms are Tuesday and Wednesday this week from 7:30-9pm in Main Gym.
Jostens will be here Friday, December 16th to distribute class rings and will also be accepting last minute cap and gown orders from seniors.
All library books are due Monday, December 19th before leaving for Christmas Break. Students who do not return borrowed books will be charged a fine.
Officer Parker has created a “See Something, Say Something” form for students to complete in order to create an anonymous way for students to report school safety concerns to us. That form has been put in Schoology and will likely be added to the website as well. Grades 9-12, mark your calendar for the Winter Semi-Formal Dance on December 30th, 2022. Tickets will be sold during lunch starting on December 12th or can be purchased at the door the night of the dance. Ticket cost is $15 per couple or $8 for a single.
The varsity quiz bowl team finished third in our league for the regular season this year. This result is much improved from prior years. We competed Saturday at IWU in our league tournament. We won our first match and lost the following two matches, resulting in our elimination. Team members who traveled were Noah Bootcheck, Keegan Stoops, Macie Parker, Bentley Thornburg, Ava Pohl, and Gabbie Klonne. They demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship and represented Monroe Central well!
The Lady Bears were defeated by South Adams 37-28. The Bears trailed 28-10 at halftime. Coming out of the locker room, the Bears rallied and out scored the Starfires 18-9 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first half deficit. The Lady Bears were lead by Kimber Abshear with 14 points and Audrey Keeley followed with 7 points of her own. Monroe Central is back in action Thursday night at Lapel. The JV Lady Bears defeated South Adams 26-12. The Bears were led in scoring by Avery Thomas with 8 points. Gracie Baker had 6 points. Riu added 5 points. Sophia Bolton had 4 points and Aubrey Johnson rounded out the scoring with 3 points. The Bears travel to Lapel Thursday.
Monroe Central’s C team opened their season with a 38-35 road win over Wapahani. The Bears had balanced scoring led by Griffin Gannon’s 12 points. Justice Davis added 8 points. Jackson Konkle chipped in 7 points, Kyler Bogue had 6, and Cohen West rounded out the scoring with 5 points.
The 8th grade boys lost last night to county rival Union City 39 to 25. The Bears trailed by 7 at the end of the 3rd quarter but the Indians pulled away in the final 3 minutes to secure the win. The boys played hard and made several runs but just couldn’t get any closer. Conner Baker led the Bears with 10 points followed by Caden Dance with 9.
Monroe Central Jr. High girls won Monday night against Cowan Middle School 46-16. Olivia Conklin led the Lady Bears with 17 points, 2 steals, and 3 blocks, followed by Aberee Ervin with 13 points, 12 steals, and 7 rebounds, Brynlee Patterson added 7 points, 7 steals, and 3 rebounds, Oaklei Davis added 4 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 8 steals, Brylie Tinsman had 2 points and 1 rebound, Charlee Morris added 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal, Haidyn Dumpert contributed with 1 point, 1 rebound, and 2 steals. There was an extra quarter played after the main game Lady Bears won 10-0 with Charlee Morris leading the way with 6 points.
