Daily Announcements 12/18/2023

Recently the state FFA crops and entomology CDEs were held at Purdue University. The following students participated and placed. In entomology, Zoie Hood placed 10th in the senior 4-H division. Our crops teams of junior division members Leah Rice, Hayden Trego, and Megan DeVoss placed 16th, and the senior team of Andi Watson, Rigley Braun, Jack Cooper, Carli Hunt placed 28th along with Lance Lord who participated as an individual. Great job to all! 

The girls and boys County Basketball Tournament will be held at Union (Modoc) on January 3rd-6th, 2024. Presale all session tickets are being sold from December 11th-20th in the high school office from 8am-3pm and on January 3rd from 8am-noon. All session tickets cost $15 and can be used all 4 nights of the tournament. Single session tickets purchased at the door will be $7. 

Cadet teachers will still go to the Elementary during finals.

On Dec. 18th, Monroe Central FFA will be hosting our chapter Christmas party. The party will start at 4:00 pm. Wear your favorite Christmas sweater! Join in on the cookie decorating contest, and Santa will be there! We can’t wait  to see you all there!

Jostens will be here during lunch on Tuesday, December 19th, to deliver class rings and for any last minute senior orders.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank on Wednesday, January 24th, there will be a sign-up sheet in the office or you can send Mrs. Greer a Schoology message. Lunch will be provided and it will be a fun day of helping others and giving back to our community! Any student in junior high or high school will be able to sign up to go. It will be on a first come first serve basis, however, if there is a lot of interest we will schedule a second day. 

On Saturday January 13th, from 8AM to 4PM, the Annual IPMG/Special Olympics basketball Invitational will be held at Monroe Central High School. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers in various opportunities such as being a referee, score keeping, runners, clean up, concessions, etc. If you’re interested in volunteering, all day or half day, please see Mrs. Wines in room 144 or send a Schoology to sign up. 

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

The varsity boys basketball team lost 57-32 Friday night to Lapel. Easton Foster led the bears in scoring with 14 points. Justus Ullom added 8 points off the bench.

The JV boys basketball team lost to Lapel Friday night 56-29. Jackson Konkle led the bears with 10 points. Carter Wheatley added 8 points.

The varsity boys basketball team went south to Hagerstown on Saturday to face the Tigers and picked up a much needed win 63-62. The bears were down by 2 points at the end of the 1st quarter. By halftime the tigers had stretched the lead out to 5. In the 3rd quarter the Bears offense showed up with some timely outside shooting and a big dose of Easton Foster on the inside. It was tied at 44 to start the 4th quarter. It was back and forth with neither team leading by more than 4 points. With 9 seconds left the Tigers had a 2 point lead. The bears went the length of the court and Josiah Cleveland hit a 3 pointer as time expired to win the game. Easton Foster led the bears with 35 points 16 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Josiah Cleveland added 10 points. Eli Chamberlain had 8 points.

The JV boys basketball team went on the road Saturday night and beat the Tigers 49-38. The bears were down 12-9 after the 1st quarter.  In the second quarter the bears turned up the defensive and got some easy baskets to take a 27-19 lead at halftime. In the 3rd quarter the bears stretched the lead out to 41-29. Carter Wheatley and Cohen West led the bears with 10 points apiece. Kyler Bogue added 9 points and 5 rebounds.
