Daily Announcements 3/02/2023

***The Senior Information Pages are available via the link shared earlier this week, as well as a physical copy.  The physical copy can be picked up in the front office. Either way, please attach a wallet sized senior picture to include on your page. If you are filling out the physical copy, place your photo (s) in an envelope with your name on it & the photos can be returned to you. 

You may also include a wallet sized (or close to that size) photo of yourself when you were younger. The earlier you submit them the better, however, the deadline will be on April 14th. No late submissions ! 

Starting next week, March 6th-13th, there will be a fundraiser called “Put your teacher in Jail”. Containers will be on the stage with the teacher’s names on them. Whichever teacher collects the most money will be “put in jail” and will not be able to be in the classroom on Thursday, March 16th. 

There will be a meeting for all football players in grades 8,9,10 and 11 this Friday, March 3rd, during B lunch in Hall Gym. The meeting will provide details and instructions for the 11th  annual BSN football weight meet held here at Monroe Central.

The Randolph County Amateur Radio Club is still wishing to create a student radio club here at Monroe Central. Mr. Retherford posted a flier with more information in Schoology. If you are interested in learning more about this, please sign up on the sheet in the office or send a Schoology message to Mr. Retherford.

Current Juniors/Class of 2024 – The Randolph County Youth Leadership Council is hosting the 39th Annual Randolph County Youth Salute. This initiative recognizes students who have shown leadership skills and/or scholastic achievement. There is also the potential of receiving scholarships. To qualify for the Leadership Salute, you must have served in a position of leadership in school, church or other community organization within the last three years.

To qualify for the Scholastic Achievement Citation, you must have met the criteria for the Leadership salute PLUS be in the top ten percent (10%) in your class scholastically. 

Nomination forms are available in Student Services and must be submitted to Student Services by March 16th, 2023.

The Jay County Civic Theatre will be holding open auditions for their production of Disney’s “Descendants” the musical on March 13 and 14. Please pick up a flier in the office for more information.

JH Track & Field practices will begin on March 13th. They will meet in the cafeteria.

The teachers’ association is selling beef sticks before and after school. Mrs. Van Pelt will be outside room 110 each morning selling and in her room (115) after school.

MONROE CENTRAL JH wrestling had a nail biting win over UNION CITY. Noah Morey, Ezekiel Anguino, and Hunter Price clutched up in the last matches of the dual helping bring home the RANDOLPH COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP, back to the Golden Bears Den!  Individual champions were 5th grader  Liam brown,  7th grader Elijah King, and 8th graders Caden Shockney, Gavyn Swoveland, and Cory Brown.  Keep it up Junior High Wrestling!

The varsity boys basketball team lost to the Raiders last night 76-33. The Bears just couldn’t find the range from the 3 point line. The Raiders came out and hit 11 3 pointers in the first half to lead 40-13 at the half.  The Bears just had no answers. Scoring for the Bears – Alden Mahaffey led the way with 9. Easton Foster had 8 points. Cole Munchel added 7 points and 10 rebounds.  Blake Bogue, Josiah Cleveland, and Hayden Taylor all had 3 points apiece. The Bears end the season with a record of 10-15.
