Daily Announcements 4/05/2023

Class of 2027 – we will be setting up a pop-a-shot at the MCE carnival on April 29th and are needing donations of 2 liter bottles of pop. Please label Class of 2027 on the bottles and bring them to the office or clinic.

Masque and Gavel will perform “Just Another High School Play” on Friday, April 14th at 6pm and also on Saturday, April 15th at 2pm and 6pm. Cost of admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students/children.

Beginning on April 10th, Monroe Central Elementary and Jr.-Sr. High School will be competing in Penny Wars for Water.  Mr. Swallow and the 4th grade class at MCE, as a class project, are raising money to help areas of the world who do not have safe and clean drinking water sources.  Grade levels across the district will compete for who can earn the most money through their donations.  Coins will earn positive points, while paper money will earn negative points.  So, you want to donate coins in your grade level can and paper money into other grade level cans.  The winning grade level will receive a pizza party for the whole grade level.  Staff members will be allowed to wear sweats or jeans during the contest as well for $2.00 per day.  Look for Mr. Swallow to share more information on how the contest will work along with updates in Schoology.  The contest will run from April 10th to April 21st.  Let’s help the 4th grade raise a bunch of money for their class project. 

Class of 2026 – There will be a meeting for any current freshmen interested in being a peer mentor next year next Thursday (April 13th) During A lunch in Hall Gym.

Seniors: Please check your Schoology Class of 2023 group for current senior information. This will include your Graduation Speaker Google Form, Senior Superlatives as well as the Senior book pages with a wallet sized senior photo. The due dates for each are as follows:

  • Friday, April 14th–Senior book pages due w/ wallet size senior picture
  • Friday, April 14th–All photos for the Senior Slideshow (Graduation) are due to KP. You may submit them to him via his school email :  kylep@monroecentral.org ; OR bring photos in to Becky & Brook. They will see that he gets the photos for the slideshow.

The teachers’ association is selling beef sticks before and after school. Mrs. Van Pelt will be outside room 110 each morning selling and in her room (115) after school.

The Monroe Central Track Teams kicked off their season Tuesday night at home with wins against Wes-Del and Elwood! Great effort shown by all!  Team Scores: Boys MC-87, WD-43, E-13. Girls: MC-79, E-36, WD-25.  Event winners for the Golden Bears included:  Boys:  Noah Keeley – 110m & 300m Hurdles, Luke Jones – 100m & 200m Dash, Eli Chamberlain – 800m & 1600m Runs, Caden Landis – 3200m Run, Cole Munchel – Shot Put, Alden Mahaffey – Discus

Zac Martin – Long Jump, 4x100m Relay Team of (Brylen Case, Ethan Hunt, Zac Martin, Luke Jones).  Girls:  Audrey Keeley – 100m Dash, Addison Coe – 1600m & 3200m Runs, Addy Puckett – 400m Dash, Karly Puckett – 800m Run, Ava Phelps – 200m Dash, 4x800m Relay (K.Puckett, A.Puckett, Katie Osborne, Avery Thomas), 4x100m Relay (Harmony Armour, Ava Phelps, Carolanne Kritsch, Audrey Keeley).  The Bears run Thursday @ Hagerstown with Delta and Union City.

The Golden Bears softball team beat a tough Union City team 3-2 Tuesday night for their season opener. Tessa Chesher threw a complete game including five strikeouts. The Bears defense backed up their pitcher by committing only two errors. Aubrey Johnson and Whitley Martin each had two hits. Tessa Chesher and Ava Pohl added one hit each. Ava Pohl and Jayme Brannan added an RBI each. The Bears are back in action Wednesday for their first home game against Hagerstown.
