Daily Announcements 9/11/2023

Batman is coming to MC today! 7th and 8th graders will be attending a convocation from 12:45-1:45 with Batman as he speaks to them about character building.

Suicide Prevention week is September 11th- 15th: There will be a guest speaker on Wednesday, September 13 who will be speaking to all students in grades 6-12th during a convocation in the gym. The message from the guest speaker is suicide awareness and she will be sharing her own personal experience with all of you. The convocation will begin at 1 p.m. 

That same evening Wednesday, September 13th at 6 PM the guest speaker will also be speaking at our Mental Health Community event. At this event, there will be not only a guest speaker but also multiple resources around our community that will be present for families to get information and ask questions. This event is a great way to spread awareness and show our community just how many resources are available to them that they may not already know about. We hope to see you all there and that you bring your families.

Anchor Club Meeting (grades 9-12): On Tuesday, September 12th during study hall in room 106 with Mrs. Greer, the anchor club will be meeting. Please consider joining the meeting to see if the anchor club is something that you would like to do. Anchor Club is full of fun activities and we get to do a lot of positive things for others in our community.

There will be auditions after school for the school play on September 12th and 13th from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.  This will be held in the cafetorium. Possible callbacks on the 14th of September if necessary.

Attention Class of 2024! We will be hosting this year’s Senior Sunrise on September 15th at 7 a.m. in the grass area where the band practices. You may park in your normal parking spots and we recommend you bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. We will have a spike ball game, donuts for breakfast, a sign to take pictures with, and music to listen to! Seniors, please join your class in watching the sunrise to commemorate your last year together.

Monroe Central is gauging interest for a new photography club. Any high school student who would be interested in joining is asked to send a Schoology message to Mr. Sims no later than September 19th. This opportunity is currently open to students in grades 9-12 only.

There will be a Harvest Homecoming semi-formal dance for students in grades 9-12 on Saturday, September 23rd from 7-10pm in the high school cafeteria. Tickets will be sold at the door, $15 for couples and $8 for singles. If you are bringing a student from a different school, please make sure to fill out a dance request form. These are due back to the school by Friday, September 22. 

School Picture Retake Day is scheduled for the morning of October 5th. If you are in need of retakes or missed the original picture day, please plan to have your photo taken on this date. Any questions may be directed to Mr. Sims.

After school help will be every Tuesday and Thursday. This is for all grades and all subjects. It will be held in room 118 for the next two weeks.

MCCTA is still selling beef sticks before school and after school in the junior high and high school hallways (outside room 110) and in Mrs. Van Pelt’s room.

Friday night, the Monroe Central football team suffered a close 30-27 loss on the road to Tri. The Golden Bears (1-3) were able to jump out to a 27-22 lead with 6:44 remaining in the fourth quarter when quarterback Lane Wilson, on the very first play of the drive, found receiver Justus Ullom for a 65 yard touchdown pass. But the Titans (3-1) fought right back with a six-play, 58-yard touchdown drive of their own, getting into the end zone with a nine-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion, and hung on from there for the victory. For Monroe Central, Wilson completed 8-of-20 passes for 192 yards with two touchdowns. He had five completions of 20 or more yards. Justus Ullom led all receivers with three receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Hunt led all Golden Bear rushers with 16 rushing attempts for 64 yards and a touchdown, while Brylen Case had one touchdown receiving and rushing apiece. Defensively, Monroe Central was led by four players with double-digit tackles on the night: Cole Luedike (13), Izaiah Mangas and Travis Reed (11) and Ryder Bowlin (10). The Golden Bears next week play host to South Adams.

The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams participated in the Randolph Southern Invite on Saturday. The boys team placed 3rd with Eli Chamberlain coming out as the individual champion for the boy’s high school race. Lane Dance, Jackson Wines, and Zadok Lloyd followed close behind placing 11th, 15th, and 20th. Nathan Daniels, Cory Brown, Wyatt Daniels, Stephen Stockwell, Noah Moery, and Zayne Sampley also finished strong. The girls came out as team champions of the invite with Addison Coe leading the girl’s placing 3rd. Avery Thomas, Andi Watson, and Katie Osborne followed close behind placing 9th, 10th, and 11th. Gracie Baker, Mackenzie Pryor, Addy Puckett, Alivia Arvin, Makaylah Brainerd, and Ailey Moon also ran well! The Bears will be back in action on Saturday at the South Adams Invitational with the boys starting at 9:50 and the girls following at 10:20! 

On Saturday morning, the Jr High Cross Country teams ran against 16 other schools at the Randolph Southern Invitational.  The Girls’ team won with an impressive score of 26, nearly 50 points ahead of 2nd place.  The Boys’ team earned 2nd place in the meet. Abree Ervin finished 3rd with Abby Thomas less than a second behind in 4th place.  Brylie Tinsman finished in 8th place.  Megan DeVoss completed the top 7.  Avery Kehoe,  and Cheyanne Fortreide earned season best times. Jed Ferguson finished 3rd in the boys race. Alexander Coe ran well, finishing 7th.  Devin Baker helped complete the top 7 in the field of 160 boys.  Alex Sides ran a great race as well.
