Daily Announcements 02/01/2024

The Academic Team had another great night in their 5-way meet against Centerville, Richmond, Jay County and Tri last night, Wednesday, January 31. The Science team took 1st place overall with Jayden Brown placing first and Ava Poh, Clay Smith, and Carson Harrell tying for 2nd. Other individual winners were Andriana Johnson with a 3rd place win in Fine Arts and 3rd place in English and Jayden Brown and Zadok Lloyd tying for 3rd place in Math. Our next meet is Tuesday, February 13 at Cowan. 

Attention Seniors who are participating in any clubs/sports your senior year: Senior night will be on Friday, February 23, between the JV and varsity boys basketball games against Randolph Southern. Please stop by the office and pick up a senior night form. Forms need to be returned to Mrs. Murray by Friday, February 16. 

UPDATE FOR STUDENTS GOING TO DANCES!!! From now on, dance request forms, for students who do not go to our school, will need to be approved for each dance. We will no longer accept one dance request per person for the year. Each dance, you will need to fill out a new request form and return it to the office. Forms will be due the Wednesday before the dance. 

There will be a Sweetheart’s Dance on Saturday, February 10th from 7-10pm for students in grades 7-12. Cost is $8 per person or $15 per couple. Tickets will be sold at the door the night of the dance. Dance request forms for students who do not attend MC are due back by Wednesday, February 7th. 

Juniors: The Randolph County Youth Salute nomination forms are available in Student Services. If you’ve served in a position of leadership at school, church, or community-sponsored organization, please stop by and pick up a form. All forms are due back to Student Services by March 1st. Please see Mrs. Moran with any questions.

After School Help is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4pm.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

The varsity boys basketball team traveled south for a conference game against Shenandoah.  The bears came out strong on the defensive end of the floor holding Shenandoah to just 17 first half points. The bears were up 23-17 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter the bears had 3 chances to expand the lead but couldn’t get a shot to fall. Shenandoah outscored the bears 12-2 in the quarter to take a 27-25 lead. In the fourth quarter neither team had more than a 3 point lead.  Hayden Taylor tied the game at 35 with 2 minutes to go. The bears couldn’t get a basket to take the lead. Shenandoah hit a 3 pointer with 45 seconds left to take a 3 point lead. Josiah Cleveland had 2 chances to tie the game but couldn’t connect on a 3. The bears ended up losing 39-35. The Bears were led in scoring by Easton Foster with 12 and Josiah Cleveland with 10.

The boys JV team lost to Shenandoah by a score of 67-37. The bears came out sluggish and it carried over thought-out the game. The bears got down early and never recovered.  

Griffin Gannom led the bears with 10 points and Braylon Anderson added 7 points.
