Daily Announcements 11/27/2023

There will be a call-out meeting for any high school student interested in participating in this year’s Poetry Out Loud program. The meeting will be on Tuesday, November 28th during study hall in Mrs. Braswell’s room.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) will be selling granola bars instead of beef sticks. They are 2 bars for $1.

The boys varsity basketball team traveled to rival Winchester last Tuesday night and lost 60-52. The Bears jumped out to a 16-7 lead after 1 quarter.  By halftime Winchester had pulled even at 24. The bears got outscored by 10 in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter the bears tried to make a comeback to cut the deficit to 6 but couldn’t get over the hump. The bears fall to 0-1 on the season. The bears were led in scoring by Eli Chamberlain with 19. Josiah Cleveland added 12 points.

Northeastern handed the Lady Bears their 2nd loss of the season on Saturday. Northeastern outscored the Lady Bears 38-14 in the first half, the Bears answered coming out of the half, out scoring the Knights 31-23 to finish the game. The Lady Bears got it as close as 12 points in the second half but the comeback fell short. The game was a tale of 2 halves as the Bears were defeated 61-45. Kimber Abshear led the Bears with 14 points and 6 rebounds while Sydney Patterson added 13 points and 4 assists. Monroe Central is now 4-2 on the season and play again on Wednesday 11/29 @ Union City.
