Daily Announcements 12/01/2023

There will be a high school Art Club meeting today at the beginning of study hall in the art room.

Senior Shirt Information is posted in Schoology – students can order individually via the link.  The shirts will be delivered to the school and distributed when we return from Christmas break (January 4th).

All high school students are invited to the Science Club Christmas party on Tuesday, December 5th from 3:15-5 pm. The party activity will be each student making their own holiday ornament for their tree at home using chemical reactions. Christmas music and snacks will be provided. Please RSVP with Mr. Smith by Monday so he can have enough materials prepared.

The 8th grade math lab class is hosting the annual Food Drive for Parker City/Randolph County. There will be some friendly competition between:

7th vs. 8th grade

9th vs. 10th grade

11th vs. 12th grade

Each student in the winning classes will receive a bear bar and capri sun. The food drive will run from Monday, 12/4/23  through Friday, 12/15/23. Please help those in need by donating non-perishable food and money during these dates. Each can of food is worth 1 point. Each donated dollar is worth 1 point.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) will be selling granola bars instead of beef sticks. They are 2 bars for $1.

Monroe Central varsity girls defeated Union City on Wednesday night, 64-33. The Lady Bears improved their record to 5-2 on the season. Sydney Patterson led the Bears in scoring with 20 first half points to go along with 3 assists. Kimber Abshear recorded a double/double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Makennah Chamness went 3/3 from the 3pt line, to tally 9 pts on the night. Monroe Central is back in action Saturday night 12/2 at Home against Winchester for a 7pm start.

The Monroe Central 8th Grade Boys Basketball team suffered a tough loss Wednesday to Hagerstown by a score of 38-29. The Bears battled all 4 Quarters, but couldn’t secure the win. Luke Morgan led the Bears in scoring with 29 points. 

The Monroe Central 8th Grade Boys Basketball team defeated Blue River Valley Thursday night by a score of 50-19 to get to 3-3 on the year. An all around team effort fueled the Bears to victory, as 9 players recorded points. The Bears next game is Monday at Muncie Southside. 

The 7th grade boys played just a quarter vs Blue Rivers 8th grade team Thursday night. The boys won the quarter 10-6, they travel to Muncie Southside on Monday. 

The 8th grade Lady Bears traveled to Daleville Thursday night to face the Broncos in another MEC conference matchup.  The Bears came out ready to play as they held the Broncos scoreless in the first quarter on their way to the win with a final score of 31-6 in a game that was shortened to only 3 quarters. All the girls saw equal playing time with the team collectively having 17 rebounds, 16 steals, 3 blocks and 5 assists. The Lady Bears move to 3-0 on the season, they are back in action on Monday vs. Yorktown.

The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team cruised to victory in their conference matchup with Daleville Thursday night, beating the Broncos 33-10 and improving their record to 3-0. Leading the way for the Lady Bears was Landry Taylor, scoring a game high 14 points and pulling down an impressive 9 rebounds to go along with 7 steals and 6 jump ball tie ups. Izzy McGrath had a great night on the boards, collecting a season high 11 rebounds to go along with 8 points, 2 blocks and 4 steals. Lucy Huston played hard and collected 4 rebounds and 3 steals to go with 3 steals. Rounding out the scoring for the bears was Claire Cheesman with 3 points and Gracie McCreery and Lillie Moery with 2 points each. The Lady Bears play again on Monday, when they play host to the Yorktown Tigers. Go Bears!
