Daily Announcements 12/04/2023

This past Saturday, the district 9 FFA welding contest was held at Connersville. Monroe Central had 6  participants – the team of Austin Schneider and Jacee Lounsbury for the beginning division of arc welding, Clay Smith and Peyton Farmer in the advanced division of mig and arc welding, and Elijah Cleveland and Landen Tinsman also in the advanced division. 

The team of Schneider and Lounsbury placed 8th in the beginning division, team of Smith and Farmer placed 6th  in the advanced division, and the team of Cleveland and Tinsman placed  2nd and will advance to the state contest in January. Cleveland was the top scorer and placed first individually! Congratulations to all on your hard work and success!

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are accepting entries until midnight on Friday, December 8th. Any student 13 years or older can enter work in a variety of art and writing categories. The Scholastic Awards are a national program focused on giving creative students access to opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Award winners are eligible for scholarships, cash awards, or tuition assistance. Posters with information are located outside Dr. Warren’s room and in the art room. See Ms. McClung if you have any questions or need help submitting work for the awards.

Senior Shirt Information is posted in Schoology – students can order individually via the link.  The shirts will be delivered to the school and distributed when we return from Christmas break (January 4th).

All high school students are invited to the Science Club Christmas party on Tuesday, December 5th from 3:15-5 pm. The party activity will be each student making their own holiday ornament for their tree at home using chemical reactions. Christmas music and snacks will be provided. Please RSVP with Mr. Smith by Monday so he can have enough materials prepared.

The 8th grade math lab class is hosting the annual Food Drive for Parker City/Randolph County. There will be some friendly competition between:

7th vs. 8th grade

9th vs. 10th grade

11th vs. 12th grade

Each student in the winning classes will receive a bear bar and capri sun. The food drive will run from Monday, 12/4/23  through Friday, 12/15/23. Please help those in need by donating non-perishable food and money during these dates. Each can of food is worth 1 point. Each donated dollar is worth 1 point.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

The varsity boys basketball team traveled to Daleville Friday night and lost a heartbreaker 51-50. Easton Foster led the Bears with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Carter Duncan added 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Bears next game is Saturday at home against Wes-Del.

The JV boys basketball team beat Daleville Friday night 48-41. The bears move to 2-1 on the season. The Bears were led in scoring by Justus Ullom with 24 points and Josh Swearingen added 9 rebounds.

The Lady Bears defeated Winchester 43-19 on Saturday night. Monroe Central is now 6-2 on season. Sydney Patterson scored 14 points for the Bears while Kimber Abshear added 8 points and 6 rebounds. Avery Thomas finished the night with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Bears travel to Shenandoah on Tuesday night.
