Daily Announcements 12/05/2023

The Monroe Central FCA is selling FCA T-shirts for $15 each. Everyone is welcome to get a shirt, even your parents, siblings, and grandparents. Order forms will be in the office and are due with money on Friday, December 15. Checks should be made out to Monroe Central High School. If you have questions, talk to KP or a FCA leader.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are accepting entries until midnight on Friday, December 8th. Any student 13 years or older can enter work in a variety of art and writing categories. The Scholastic Awards are a national program focused on giving creative students access to opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Award winners are eligible for scholarships, cash awards, or tuition assistance. Posters with information are located outside Dr. Warren’s room and in the art room. See Ms. McClung if you have any questions or need help submitting work for the awards.

Senior Shirt Information is posted in Schoology – students can order individually via the link.  The shirts will be delivered to the school and distributed when we return from Christmas break (January 4th).

All high school students are invited to the Science Club Christmas party on Tuesday, December 5th from 3:15-5 pm. The party activity will be each student making their own holiday ornament for their tree at home using chemical reactions. Christmas music and snacks will be provided. Please RSVP with Mr. Smith by Monday so he can have enough materials prepared.

The 8th grade math lab class is hosting the annual Food Drive for Parker City/Randolph County. There will be some friendly competition between:

7th vs. 8th grade

9th vs. 10th grade

11th vs. 12th grade

Each student in the winning classes will receive a bear bar and capri sun. The food drive will run from Monday, 12/4/23  through Friday, 12/15/23. Please help those in need by donating non-perishable food and money during these dates. Each can of food is worth 1 point. Each donated dollar is worth 1 point.

The MCCTA (Mrs. Van Pelt) is selling granola bars, 2 bars for $1.

MC varsity wrestling team – Connersville 41 over Monroe Central 33. Winners for your Golden Bear grapplers and staying undefeated were @113 Mak Brainerd, 132 Gavyn Swoveland, 157 Zac Martin and 190 Jerimiah Ullom, also earning their first varsity wins @ 126 Raegen Quattlebaum, 144 Caden Shockney.  Again great gains were made as the young team continues to improve.  This dual came down to the very last match with your Golden Bears coming up just short.  We are back on the Mat against Tri for Senior Night and our final home meet this evening at 6pm.

The Monroe Central 8th Grade Boys Basketball team was defeated Monday night by Muncie Southside by a score of 47-34. The Bears were led in scoring by Luke Morgan with 24. They are back in action on Thursday at rival Selma.

The 7th grade boys basketball team lost to a tough and physical Southside team. The Bears are back in action on the road vs MEC rival Selma. 

The Lady Bears 8th grade basketball team stayed undefeated on the season as they came out hotter than Georgia asphalt to start the game. The team scored their first bucket less than 5 seconds into the game and never looked back after some stellar shooting and stifling defense led to a lead of 32-8 at halftime against a solid Yorktown team.  The Bears had 3 ladies in double figures tonight, Aberee Ervin led the team with 14 pts to go along with 4 steals, Brynlee Patterson followed up with 13pts and 5 rebounds, after winning the jump ball Oaklei Davis put in a great effort on her way to a Double-Double with her dumping in 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to go along with her 3 blocked shots on the night.  Charlee Morris played a solid game while pulling down 7 rebounds to add to her 5 points on the evening.  Haidyn Dumpert played an aggressive game tonight scoring 4 points and hauling in 6 rebounds to add to a couple of steals and 4 jump ball tie-ups.  It was another great team effort by your 8th grade Lady Bears tonight as the entire team saw playing time once again and moved to 4-0 on the season.  Great job ladies.

The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team was defeated for the first time on Monday night, losing to the visiting Yorktown Tigers 36-37 in a nail biter that came down to the final second to decide. The girls faced a hot Yorktown team that built an early 11 point lead but battled their way back to a tie score of 27-27 at the end of the third quarter thanks to their tough defense and aggressive play. Leading the defensive charge for the Bears was Izzy McGrath with 6 blocks to go along with 6 points and Claire Cheesman, who had 3 steals and 4 rebounds to go with 1 point. Lucy Huston contributed offensively with 3 rebounds to go with 2 assists and 7 points. Mila Morris had 3 assists to go with 2 steals and 14 points. Landry Taylor had 3 assists, 2 steals and 6 points and Gracie McCreery had 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 points. Brynlee Dumpert contributed with tough help side defense to go with her 2 assists. The Lady Bears travel to Cowan on Monday for another conference matchup against the Blackhawks.  Go Bears!
